Nana's is open again!
Nana's Taco Shack in Chillicothe has re-opened under new management.
We JUST found out about it, so we changed our lunch plans and ran down there.
The inside has been cleaned up and repainted. The outside is being repainted as well. It's going to be tan instead of bright yellow.
The seating inside is better arranged, but 20 or so would be full capacity; the place is tiny.
I ordered the burrito original, while hubby ordered the tacos Mexicanos, choosing carnitas instead of steak or chicken.
Everything was very good. The marinated pork in my burrito was very flavorful, and the cheese sauce on top was equally good. The refried beans that came with it were good (better than most), and the rice was among the best I've had at a Mexican restaurant.
The tacos were outstanding. The carnitas were perfect, as was the tomatillo-based salsa that came with them.
We spoke with the new manager, who said he was from Oaxaca, Mexico. His wife, aunt, and uncle are doing the cooking. He pointed to the bottom of the menu, which said "If you don't see what you want on the menu, please speak with your server; we may be able to accommodate your request."
Hubby smiled and asked if they could make Chili Colorado. We're going back for dinner to try their version of that!
He also said that they are offering the "expected" foods, but they want to offer more authentic, Oaxacan food as well. He then proceeded to tell us about the different mole sauces he hopes to add to the menu.
Right now, it sounds like you can request it in advance. We'll probably put in a request for Wednesday!
Nana's is located on Cedar St. in Chillicothe, next to La Gondola, just off Rt.29 (4th Street).
