MLB Exciting Season End Obviously if you're a Cardinals fan, you just shrug it off, hope for a better 2027.
If you're a Cubs fan, you're excited because they clinched the wild card so there's always hope they'll get farther than last year.
If you're a White Sox fan, you're probably overjoyed because they're battling out Cleveland for the AL Central Division. Sox are 1 game behind Cleveland. So as of 7:57pm, Sox were losing to Rockies 5-2 (Seriously the Rockies?) and Guardians were winning 7-3 against Royals. The big story is last year, the White Sox ended 2025 in last place with a very dismal record. So that team has done a 180 degree turnaround.
Another close race is between Texas Rangers and Houston Astros. Tied for 1st in AL West. I'm kind of rooting for Rangers because Patrick Cunningham, a WMBD morning Co-Anchor, is from Texas, and the Rangers are his team. When we see each other in the newsroom, we talk about Cubs and Rangers. The story here is, both teams are battling for 1st place...with a losing record. That's how bad the AL West has been this year. Either team could just have a .500 record and clinch the division. Houston is starting soon against Athletics, and Rangers are up 6-2.
Finally, the 3rd NL wild card is up for grabs, depending on what the Phillies or Diamondbacks do. And if the Cubs win tomorrow, and Padres lose both games, it'll be a tie for top wildcard, and Cubs will win tiebreaker because of their 5-1 record against Padres in 2026.
I don't think I've seen an end to an MLB season like this for a long time. Anything can happen tonight and tomorrow.

Ok, well the Guardians won, clinching the AL Central, Sox lost. But they clinched last wildcard in the AL. Tampa Bay blowing out Phillies 10-0 in the 6th. Padres just took a 6-4 lead over the D-Backs in the 4th. Houston is 3-0 over Athletics , but the Ranger won 6-2 over the Twins.
Can this get more exciting?

It's the season end all right, and it wasn't exciting at all. I suppose I'll hal***** root for the Sox now. Under no circumstances will SD or Milwaukee get any support from me, ever.
Cub bats just weren't able to hit Padre pitching this year. Padres got hot near end of year going from 4th Wildcard to 1st. But I don't think they'll beat Milwaukee. I'm looking to cheer on the White Sox, because they went from last place last year to being in the playoffs this year. They might actually beat Cleveland. Who knows? The Cubs have plenty of off-season work to do, with several players as free agents. Happ, Suzuki, Imanaga, Peterson among them. Will some or all get re-signed? Bigger question will be: will there be Baseball in March/April without a lockout due to the MLPA contract with MLB up?
