@skutfarcus : That predates me. Something wants me to say Co-Op was originally in the Avantis location before then moved to the One World location, but I'm not sure about that. After a while Jim Reeve's store moved over to where Jimmy Johns is, and the Peoria Record Company always held down Sheridan & Main, before Sheridan and Main was cool.

When I came back from college everything had changed. I guess they couldn't all survive without my expendable paper route money.

Co-Op Records was also at the corner of University and Forrest Hill for a little while. Maybe in the Bingo Hall building?

I used to buy a lot of record albums at the "Nice Price" from Co-Op Records & Tapes.

@PeoriaIllinoisan : I worked at Budget the first 6 months of 72. I left to go to Lackland AFB. Budget was at 639 Main next door to Ida's Quench Room, probably Peoria's first gay bar. At the time I left, Jay was finalizing a deal with a huge warehouse in Indianapolis to supply records for the new store.

@CCubs : There was another at Willow Knolls and University, in the basement of the old strip mall that's still there. I bought Men At Work's debut album there!

It would be nice if another restaurant located there...but they'd run into the same issues that Avanti's did, unless their menu was completely different than what area restaurants and the BU Food Court offers

@DennisinPeoria : I think a real Italian eatery would do well.

The (main) problem with that location as a restaurant is the parking lot. Turning left out of the parking lot onto University is nearly impossible. And probably 90% or better leaving the parking lot want to do just that.

@CCubs : There has been an exit onto Elmwood since 2014. Lots of people have been using it. Because of that exit, fewer people have needed to turn left, into or out of the parking lot. The residents on Elmwood are keenly aware of this reality.

So with that Avanti's closing, think the city would consider taking out those parking places in front of it on University, put back in a right turn lane?

@DennisinPeoria : That would take away from the beauty of the intersection. 😂

@kraziebill : Like pedestrians running out between cars out into Main street in the rain in the dark are concerned out their safety.
