Pekin Kroger is pretty nice, actually

I like Haddad's in west Peoria but need to take out a small loan just to shop there sometimes.

I like Kroger, for the most part. The one at Northpoint is especially nice. And I agree with meanjarhead about the one in Chillicothe. However, I rarely buy beef at Kroger. I prefer the beef at Schnucks.

@JustRight We stopped at the one in Northpoint this summer and it is ery nice. But have not been to the other Kroger stores since forever. The new Hyvees is very nice too. I swear everyone I know buys their beef at Schnucks and their deli section is really nice too.

Yes, it is better there. I really should go there more often than I do.
I also like Pottstown in Metro Centre. I've ordered my Amish turkey from them for Thanksgiving. They are sooo much better tasting than grocery store turkeys.

I've discovered that the produce section of EVERY grocery store in and around Peoria sucks! There is no good produce in this area. Bought good-looking grapes at Walmart the other day and they taste like absolute crap, very bitter.

Unfortunately, that is no longer a Peoria-only problem. Fruits and vegetables are being bred to withstand shipping, not to taste good. Couple that with the drought in California (where most of our fruit comes from) and you end up tasteless, nutrient-deficient produce.
My only suggestion is to buy from the local farmers' markets and u-picks, and only buy what is in season. I know Garden Spot is still selling at Metro Centre on Saturdays, and sometimes on weekdays.

love the kroger points on gas. don't buy much meat other then ribs there. most other stuff comes from there. wife buys gift cards for steak and shake and others so I can fill the truck for way less.
