Your Greatest Concerts, Ever!

I've seen probably 1000 concerts so my "greatest list" is probably a long one, but some of the best:

1981 - Rolling Stones, Journey, George Thorogood - Rich Stadium.

1981 - Styx - Memorial Auditorium - Buffalo, NY
Slim Pickens was there and introduced the band

1986 - Ozzy/ Metallica - Austin, TX
Ozzy was in his prime and Metallica was just gaining attention with the Master Puppets album

1988 - Lynyrd Skynyrd/Gary Rossington Band - Buffalo, NY
Lacy Van Zandt introduced the band after a 15 minute video detailing the history of my then favorite band of all time. All the classics! And Freebird done instrumentally, as it should be. Too bad they sold out and started singing the words that Johnny VanZandt once said could only be sung by one man!

1994 - Pink Floyd - Yankee Stadium
Epic. legendary and that was just the venue! The band, incredible. Everything you'd expect from these geniuses and more!

1996 - Edenfest - Mossport Park, Toronto - 3 days of amazingness and great bands like Bush, The Cure, 7 Mary Three, Sloan, Tracy Bonham, Ever clear, Spacehog, Porno For Pyros, Live, Tragically Hip, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goo Goo Dolls, and a ton of others.

2003 - Grateful Dead/Bob Dylan - Buffalo
I heard Dylan was either great or horrible. This show he was great! One of hundreds of shows I worked at 6 Flags and Dylan used my cell phone. Priceless!

2011 - Elton John - Peoria
Chef Kev invited me at the last minute, having never seen the legend and it awesome. His voice and his band were dead on and he played everything!

Also, seen 5 Warped Tours, 2 Ozzfests and too many more to remember

I don't know if it was the best, but definitely the coolest. Marc Broussard is one of my newer favorite artists. I saw him in Indy at the Vogue. After the concert, as usual, it is a mad rush/pain in the butt to get out. This place is about the size of the Madison for those who are familiar. So we sat, finished our drinks, chatted and from the back walks Marc Broussard, acoustic guitar in hand. He says something about the bus and wanted to know if the remaining 30 or so of us would mind if he played a few more songs. So, he hopped up on the bar, sat there, answered some questions from people, took requests from the "audience" and sang/played them....no amps, microphones, sound board....just a man, his guitar and huge voice for about 30 minutes, shook hands and left.

Sammy Hagar concerts. Huge Sammy fan. Dude just has fun; doesn't appear like it's work. However, this last show at the state fair was a little disappointing. I know Jason Bonham is his current drummer and Sammy is a huge Zep fan, but I didn't go to hear Hagar sing Zep songs.

1982 Scorpions Blackout and Iron Maiden Number of the Beast tour.

I too have seen more concerts than I can even remember. I do have a wooden recipe box that holds most of the ticket stubs.

I grew up not very far from Alpine Valley and spent a lot of time there.

June 16 1974. Grateful Dead at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. My wife and I had gotten married the day before. It was our honeymoon.

It's a tie between Pearl Jam - March '92 at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago (Smashing Pumpkins showed up for an encore) and Lollapolooza, '92 (Main Stage - Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Lush, Ice-Cube, Jesus and Mary Chain, Ministry on the Main Stage. Side Stage(s) - Jim Roses' Freak Show, Stone Temple Pilots, Porno for Pyros, Cyprus Hill, House of Pain...I know I'm forgetting a few. The best was standing in line for a gyro and hearing the opening strains of "Hunger Strike"...Eddie and Chris did an impromtu Temple of the Dog set about 10 feet from where we were standing! And tickets were $40!!!!!!!!!!!! (which seemed like a LOT of money at the time!)

12/31/99 - Phish, Big Cypress Seminole Reservation, Everglades, Florida
The band came out a little before midnight and didn't leave the stage until after sunrise, around 7am. Their set lasted 7 hours and 45 minutes.

10/06/2005 - Pearl Jam with Robert Plant - House of Blues, Chicago

Other favorite concerts - Beastie Boys, Grateful Dead, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, REM, Jay-Z & Justin Timberlake, Dave Matthews Band, Jimmy Buffet, David Byrne, Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, U2, Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Green Day, Metallica, Tool, Mumford & Sons.

I saw the Beastie Boys twice in 30 days in 07, they were my favorite concerts. First in Boston then in Chicago. The Boston show was MCA's birthday (RIP) and both were Black Tie Gala's where tux and ball gowns were encouraged but not required. This particular tour was two nights in each city, first night was a fancy show where they played alot of their instrumental jam songs with a few of the classics interspersed, the second night they were playing classic Arena shows.
The Boston show was the best, I already had my ticket before I left Peoria, but my brother scalped one at the door. I was sitting 10 rows from the stage, next to two models from the suicide girls website (do not Google at work) and my brother was in the balcony and said the guy next to him was smoking a joint and had a seeing eye dog.

I've been to one Ozzfest and 3 Lolla's and a dozen or so other shows, but the Beastie's are the only ones who were on my bucket list.

I should add Monsters of Rock with Van Hagar, Scorpions, Metallica, Dokken and Kingdom Come in 1988 and Metallica with Guns n Roses and Faith No More, both at Rich Stadium in Buffalo

I did have 9th row center to see the Rolling Stones at Busch Stadium in '89.

In the 80`s down in St Louis they had a 3 day event. All I can really remember was tons of groups played. Jeff Beck, Deep Purple, Jake Geils Band, Montrose. There were many more I can remember a few but young and wasted been a long time ago. Tickest were $60.00 at the gate $40.00 in advance. I got tickets at COOP tapes and records on main. The Best show was RUSH in Springfield.

When Dio reunited with Sabbath for the Time Machine tour, they came to Buffalo to play at Sheas, a 3300 seat theater. I get front row tickets by sleeping out, and my guitar player, Kirk and I - insane Sabbath fans- went ot the show. The entore concert I was head banging, screaming out the lyrics, etc. At the end of the last encore, Diio saud "We love you Buffalo!" then he pointed me with the devils horns gesture he made famous and said "You! Yes!!!!!!"

I sobbed like a baby when Ronnie James Dio passed away. He was a legend to me. I still cannot believe he's gone.

God help the person who disturbs me when Ozzy dies. I'll probably inconsolable
