Classic vs. Modern Rock

For quite awhile, I considered classic rock anything before 1990. Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Van Halen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, KISS, Boston, Bad Company, etc. Modern Rock to me is Metallica, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Nirvana, etc.
I may have to change my definition of Modern Rock when I had on WGLO 95.5 Classic Rock on the car radio tonight....and they played "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica! Whoa. Now, I've heard Black Crows on GLO, but not much else what I consider Modern Rock.
Does this mean bands that put out music in the 70s and 80s (Aerosmith, BTO, Genesis, The Police, Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, so on) are now considered "Oldies Rock"?

A lot of the music you mentioned as modern rock was released 30 or more years ago. I'd say Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc fit the definition at this point.

My twenty-something kids have no interest in any of those bands.
