I wish there was better repair scheduling.
i.e. why couldn't the I 74 work have been done during the I-155 project?
It would have been a small, additional pain then vs a larger one now... and probably wouldn't have required the night work.

I guess that is the complaint, funding drives inconvenient schedules instead of common sense driving road repair scheduling.

Fortunately for us that live in the area, we know where and how to take alternate routes. But those that are not from this area, don't know the roads (unless they use at GPS), they might get stuck in traffic in construction zones.

Coming back from a deli supply run in Normal last Friday, I took US RT. 150 starting at Mitsubishi Parkway, got back on I-74 at Goodfield exit.

Speaking of Interstate construction: is there any between Bloomington and Chicago? I looked on Google maps, didn't see anything. I know I could use IDOT's website, but sometimes it's easier to know if someone has driven that way recently. Wife and I thinking about going to a Cubs game August 3rd at Wrigley.

@DennisinMH : I was through a couple weeks ago and just pothole repairs didn't see any cones lined up on side of the road.

@NoTime : the effort is made.....but you're forgetting about one key component....$$$ cash flow. I correlate to your home improvements. One would like to put siding on, repair the roof, and add the room addition all at same time but ya can't afford it.
In highways, it's very similar. Take every project in Peoria, Bloomington, Chicago, Rockford, Et St Louis, etc.. that would make practical sense to do an adjacent project because the time is right.. The $$$ add up pretty quick. And.....your'e assuming that the engineering all gets done at same time, property purchased, bids procured in a seamless manner. It's complex process that sometimes hits little snags that cause big snags

One can almost never drive 55 across the Westbound Murray Baker bridge. I always am behind some fool who thinks it is a good idea to drive 10-15 miles under the speed limit.

@conrad : This has been a complaint of mine for a long time, and that when people get to the bridges, they think the speed limit drops to 45 mph

@Skimo : Yes, $ is the problem

But when looking at the grand scheme, you have to understand the frustration when a 14 mile stretch of I-74 (between Route 6 and Morton) has had lane-closing construction every year since the Peoria 74 project began in 2002 ...Although I greatly appreciate at least the current paving is at night)

@NoTime : I get it. Nobody likes waiting. But you are talking about 2 of the largest highway projects in Peoria area history....that went on for several years each.. Both greatly needed, by the way

As mentioned, who plans these things? Why not one bridge at a time?

Yeah, I dont' care which way one travels the Murray Baker, unless it is in the late evening or night there is always people in the left lane driving 40.

Update on some things

1. Murray Baker bridge EB inspection is over, so that is open. But there are digital signs and lower MPH signs covered with black tarp indicating that real bridge road work is beginning Monday on the MBB. I had no reason to use McCluggage bridge today, so don't know that status.

2. Both WB and EB lanes of I-74 between East Peoria and Morton almost all have 2 layers of asphalt on them. The EB lanes even have striping, just need to pave the shoulders. WB has 2 layers mostly, still need striping and shoulder paving. But again, that's at night.
