Is there anything that can be done about Cottonwood Trees? Every year, as these trees get older, they shed longer and longer. My yard and deck look like I have snow on them. And the trees are not in my yard. We can't sit on our deck, it clogs up the lawn mower, gets in the central air, we have to put a screen around it. Fills our garage if we have a it opened for a short time. It is a nuisance, just like people that don't cut their grass, so I would think the city could do something about them.

I'm following this. I'm surrounded by giant cottonwoods. That stuff even 'drifts' like snow. I burnt up a nice Hoover vacuum cleaner trying to get the stupid things off the ac. I learned not to use the leaf blower on them if I'm sweaty. Emoticon
I don't think there's much you can do about them but remove the trees. That's never a good option. At least they shed the most when it's too hot and humid to spend much time outside.

So some "internets" reading states that the cottonwood fluff and can be controlled with by making a cottonwood tree seedless early in the spring through annual treatment with an ethephon-based herbicide. Getting a head start on treating your cottonwood tree with a growth hormone early in the spring is best.

Sounds like you'll just have to deal with it unless you can treat them next year. You could try the City &/or Park District to see if they have an Arborist that might be able to help with the neighboring property situation?

@Mahkno : Have a hose ready, but it looks like it burns so quickly that other stuff doesn't get hot enough to ignite. Captivating to watch!

Too bad the same wouldn't work with the maple "airplane" seeds! Our yard and driveway are covered every year from the trees. No one to blame since they are our huge trees LOL.

@SAM1096 :

First came the maple seeds

Then came the drifts of birch seeds

Now, we are buried in white fluff.
