Has anyone here celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi?

I do not have direct experience with the celebration, but do have a special appreciation of Ganesha the deity. His observants will undoubtedly share the details of any ceremony they may propose, and there may be a simple "Om" chant proposed. (In case it is a disconcert for you, there is no violation of one's belief to honor those of another, but most appreciate a respectful decline if it is uncomfortable.) Ganesha loves color - especially red - so you may want to take an odd number of red flowers and if they are petaled like daisies or the like, make sure they have odd number of petals on them. I am not sure why. I would dress colorfully - namely embracing red. And just have fun. My experience of having many Hindi friends in Berkeley (CA) way back when is they are generous with their stories and their beliefs and their lovely celebrations. If you take anything food wise, I would encourage you to bring sweets and especially something made with honey. You could even bring a small jar with milk and honey mixed in it. It is a particularly loved treat that can be offered in a dish in front of their Ganesha statue. Have fun.

My heart is full. I have interacted with my son's roommates but not a lot. They are so genuinely sweet.
