Angelo Caputo's Fresh Markets
Has anyone been to one of these in the Chicago area? My husband and I went for the first time to the one in Naperville. I was sure I had died and gone to heaven! It had every imaginable foodstuff from Italy, as well as freshly prepared Italian foods. Prices were great, too. REAL Pecorino Romano cheese was $3.99/lb. There was an entire aisle of nothing but canned tomatoes. Another of just olive oils. And the biscotti is out of this world...😋

We go to the one in Carol Stream about once a month. Like Caputo's better than Viviano's in St. Louis.

@bwiser
When my husband suggested we go to Caputo's, I envisioned a place like Viviano's, which we try to get to twice a year. But this Caputo's was at least 10 times the size of Viviano's! Can't wait to go back!

@JustRight I wish Peoria could get a Caputo's. I would rather see something like that come to Peoria than a Meijer super store.

@maygirl We still go to Viviano's every time we go to St. Louis. But if you ever get an opportunity to go to a Caputo's (they are all over the Chicago area) you would love it.
They are about 10 times larger than Viviano's. I still love the old time feel of Viviano's though.

@bwiser Thank you, for the info. Will try it some time. I love the old feel about Viviano's, too!

Been to the one in Carol Stream snd it is phenomenal to say the least.

Another phenomenal place is Eataly on the near north side right off Michigan Ave www.eataly.com. It is a huge place, more expensive but fascinating to walk through the various depts. and see the “real deals” all imported.

@billybob I agree. Eataly is more expensive, but well worth the experience.

I've been to the Eataly in New York, but not the one in Chicago.
We had a very good meal at Eataly, but otherwise found it to be expensive and rather touristy. Caputo's is much more down-to-earth. The one we went to in Naperville is just adding (remodeling?) a cafe. Can't wait to try it!

I have never been to either, but I would love to see a Vali Produce & Supermarket come to Peoria. There are five of them in the Rockford area. I don't know how reasonable their sundry items are, but their produce prices are ridiculously low and usually have really good prices on meat and seafood. Here is their ad this week. $.89 avocados, $5.99 bay scallops and $3.99 lb skirt steak. shop.valliproduce.co m/weekly-ad/

@JustRight

I would say tbe Eataly in Chicago is larger than either ones in NYC. I am more familiar with the one at Broadway at 23rd or so.
They also recently opened one in Boston. Have not been there but some people think it seems larger than Chicago, Maybe they are learning things as they add places.
