7 day lock

Looks like a new settings change, the automatic 7 day lock. Is it s supposed to encourage people to create a new discussion if they want to add something? Is it supposed to encourage old topics to die and have people create new ones? Is it supposed to prevent digging up old discussions, which current participants often find annoying? 7 days is rather short for that. I've been wanting discussion forum systems to implement a feature to not bump discussions to the top if a users wishes such when they add content to an old discussion. It doesn't matter if a discussion is old or new as far as search engine hits on forums go.

I'm not so happy.
Poll: Do you like the 7 day lock?

I don't like the lock if participants stay on topic.

But if we start talking about tuna fish sandwiches and end up arguing about the vacation spots in Madrid, it's time to shut it down.

@MadScientist :
I am opposed based on inactivity. I am working full time and carrying 16 credits in college right now - and find my time to check in much more rare, but appreciate the dialogue this forum offers me to be connected with my community at large. The lock would preclude my ability to participate in discussions that may have 'timed out'.

@CornelliusRex : Agreed. I also think that follow up events happen regarding past posts. It seems unnecessary to keep generating new posts on the same topic.

Rather than create a new discussion and deal with the lock ness monster, here is an an article I found. Germany is preparing for future military conflict with Russia. Men aged 17 to 45 have new restrictions on stays abroad that are over 3 months. Germany is bringing back military conscription. Not sure if this is mentioned in the US news, since I haven't paid much attention to it.

Funny how it is to get locked out here or just choose to unfollow or block someone.
What would it be like to live with it every day, with no way to turn it off, block it, or unfollow someone? How would people handle that?

@tntrecycling : It happens everyday to everyone. I even hear the JW's like to lock out and shun people who unfollow them. Go figure.
