@PeoriaChronicle : Not totally free money. My daughter and son-in-law are in their early 40s and were paying off their student loans. Both finally got loan forgiveness. She works for a non-profit and has for years. He is currently teaching after having worked in non-profit youth programming for a quite awhile. Neither were large balances since they were paying them up until forgiveness. If they had not been paying, forgiveness would not have been granted. I have no idea how they vote and won't ask.

@AverageSue : Yeah, totally analogous. The government shut down the economy for months and wouldn't let people work against their will vs. people taking out loans of their own volition. Completely the same!

A lot of the people who got loans forgiven didn't need it, and misused.
The Right seems to like to punch down and not see that the problem can be seen by looking up instead.

What's the problem? Were people forced to take out student loans against their will? Were they tricked into it? Were the terms of the loan not disclosed before they signed? Why shouldn't the person who took out the loan have to pay it back? Why should people who did not take out the loan have to pay it back?

The best thing I have seen went something like this. You have an $1800 Iphone, $400 sneakers, and you pay $6.00 for a cup of coffee. Pay your own loans!

Ok so my son has a hand-me-down iPhone he's had for about 5 years (his grandmother upgraded). He pinches his pennies. Lives in a shared apartment with 4 other people, makes about 60% of a living wage. He also has a permanent disability. Multiple actually. Blind with cerebral palsy.

HIS LOANS ARE NOT FORGIVEN.

It's not like everyone's plans are forgiven. Only segments of the population.

I remember a quote from one of my supervisors: " it doesn' t matter what you pay the crew, say $100, 000/ year, the majority would be living paycheck to check". It's true. Life is about choices...most can't make good ones.
Having said that, I'm sure there are many, many in deep debt trying to live their dreams. I just don't think the way to go is asking the government print more $$ to forgive their loans. I sacrificed not buying many things to pay my loans off...and learned that most everything comes at a price.
Politics aside ,whether Dem or Rep, why would a college person deep in loan debt that hasn't seen a paycheck yet, not vote for a guy making forgiveness promises?
That is until they see their 1st paycheck reduced by unreal amounts. Nothing is free

There are things that the other team pushes for that make this look like peanuts. And same team wants to give permanent tax cuts to the wealthy while they buy votes by promising tax cuts for the rest
.. and they expire.

Then it looks like the other guy's fault when they expire.

Ok "the other team publicizes as it tax cuts for the 'Wealthy'. I am not wealthy, but appreciate tax cuts, as I pay my bills as most conservative folks do. I get kinda tired of the rhetoric that tax cuts are for the 'wealthy only'. Most conservatives like me just get tired of paying for those who refuse to. We need to quit demonizing business that provide our jobs and a larger part of our economy
