2024 Local Golf Rates

I do this once in a while out of curiosity, sticking with what I consider to be local courses. Rates are based on standard 18 holes with cart as shown on their websites.

Hillcrest, Washington, $22.50
Fon du Lac, East Peoria, $33
Kaufman Park, Eureka, $39
Madison, Peoria, $40
Sunset Hills, Pekin, $40
Quail Meadows, East Peoria, $45
Newman, Peoria, $48
Coyote Creek, Bartonville, $50
Kellogg, Peoria, $53
Parkview, Pekin, $42 Res, $54 Non-Res
Pine Lakes, Washington, $54
Kellogg Executive 9, $60 **($22 per 9 holes, $16 for 18 hole cart; no replay rate or 18 hole rate listed)
Lick Creek, Pekin, $46 Res, $60 Non-Res
Metamora Fields, Metamora, $79
Weaver Ridge, Peoria, $79

Wow! Now I remember why I quit golfing. Who can afford that?

For how bad I am, I'll just take some swings at the crab grass in my back yard.

@CCubs : Actually, the golf rates in this area are quite affordable compared to other areas. I almost always pay considerably more when traveling outside the area.
I believe the prices noted above are with cart. If you wish to walk and get some exercise, the price is $15-$17 less.

Another tidbit...for all the anti Illinois folks, most states, and I say most, tax golf.
So the fees one sees posted above are actual. Other states tack on 8-10%, or more. Just sayin

@Skimo :
Well, ****. I hope nobody from the city council is reading this; they'll add the HRA tax and a few others to it.

Most courses around here, if not all, include the tax in the final price. Makes it a lot easier than fumbling for change all day.

On top of the regular tax, in Peoria there is a 3% amusement tax that applies to golf but not the cart.

@PeoriaIllinoisan :
How do they get away with that?
Wasn't Avantis forced to stop including tax in prices years ago?

Every place I've been, the tax is on top of the rate. To my knowledge, I've never paid a tax on top of the rate here locally. I'm guessing there are some courses up north in western suburbs that may have a local tax, but I'm almost certain there is no Illinois state tax.

@Skimo : Upon further review.... you are correct, Illinois does not tax "amusements." Golf in Peoria is only taxed at the 3% local amusement tax. Golf cart rentals are not taxed. Food and beverage is taxed at 11%.

Chicago has a 9% amusement tax. Bloomington 4%, Schaumburg 5%, Plainfield 1% and Hoffman Estates 6%, so it's all over the board.

As far as why, I don't know. Bowling, Movie Theaters, and other forms of "amusement" are non-taxable. I'm going to guess concerts and nearly anything at the civic center is also non-taxable at the State level.
