Yes, we are bringing chip manufacturing back to the USA. This was one major problem we had during the pandemic and showed how vulnerable we were with supply chain issues.

This will also bring more good paying jobs to the U.S. instead of companies having to import from overseas. Good jobs means more tax money, improved economies. Even members of the GOP should not be against this, except I feel the amount is a bit much. However, Samsung is investing quite a bit, too.

I like how it brings it back to the U.S. like we not smart enough, so we ask others to perform for us. Isn't that what all the college kids are being schooled for or are they just still you can be anything stage.

@tntrecycling :
There's been a big push for our kids NOT to go to college. That's where we learn to be a frontrunner in technology.

@AverageSue :
It's a pendulum. In the 90's we told kidd that they HAD to go to college. We're facing a shortage right now of skilled trades workers because everyone was getting college degrees instead of becoming plumbers and electricians, etc.

@ProfessorPlum :
agreed.
I see people demonizing college-goers and say they need to learn plumbing. I usually respond with "we need both".

@AverageSue :
K thru high school you can be anything you want to be. Then add dept with college you can be more. Sounds really interesting when I can be what I want at any time but yet they teach you can be anything you want. I sorry If you think that's where education really comes from.

Woodruff is set to offer an HVAC program. The issue? An instructor. Very few want to take a massive pay cut to teach high school students. My starting pay at D150 barely paid the bills. If you are a union HVAC guy, you are probably making some serious bank; even more so than my Executive Chef/departmental manager position. Why would you give that up? Who gives up 60+K to teach for $36500? Well careertech in high school is a great idea, it is going to die with this pay rate.

@skutfarcus :
They teach you can be anything you want to be. But you don't learn any trades or skills on what ones do in the world. Now at 16 you have to work and find what is suitable for you. While still struggling on grades and to be what you want to be. Still no set ways at graduation. You can be what you want to be. Now another 10 years of getting educated for the job you thought you desire only to not have squat.

Children learn best while young. Teaching ones how to take care of themselves and other important skill should be learned while young.

I don't think it should be up to the public school system to teach trades. Or law and medical.

True but they teach you that you can be anything. Yet teach what?
Teaching is giving the opportunity to learn. Showing what it takes to become a skilled trade sure would be nice if you could learn while in them years. If you complete college and are looking for employment. Sure, would be nice if you had learned some skills along while in grade or high school.
