Insider Oil Trading investigation. Granted, it's from a few months ago.
abc7news.com/post/do j-probing-26-billion -oil-trades-related- iran-war-source

But then I saw in other Social media of a $278 million oil futures purchase or trade...just hours before the US military struck the Iranian oil tankers. And no one knows who did it. Then again, there was no link or documentation to support it.

Labor Day usually raises prices. Regular gas actually has dropped below $4 in Pekin. Article excerpt:
"But diesel is a different story: It hit a national average of $5.85 a gallon Friday, a record.

Trucks and other freight delivery systems use a lot of diesel, and that increased transportation cost is being passed on to consumers, whether at the grocery store or through package delivery services.

I noticed diesel prices over $6 a gallon in Bloomington today! Above the national average.

My opinion and mine alone.

I quit looking at other states or cities in Illinois that typically have low gas prices. It's just depressing and there's nothing I can do about it.

Prepare for a sharp increase in gas prices. Thanks to the never ending war (conflict) overseas.
apnews.com/article/o il-prices-iran-attac k-saudi-brent-crude- 7538e6386a819bc

Excerpt: "NEW YORK (AP) - The price of oil surpassed $100 a barrel for the first time since July after attacks on oil facilities and ships in the Middle East threatened to debilitate an already weakened supply chain.

Brent crude, the international standard, jumped nearly 3% to $100.72 early Wednesday.

U.S. benchmark crude gained 2.4% to $95.25 a barrel, and U.S. gasoline prices rose sharply overnight."

Hope those who voted for GOP in 2024 for both WH and Congress remember this November 3rd, just 55 days from now.

DennisinPeoria :

I get your distaste for Trump. I do.
I have always felt that local prices are affected more by local policies than federal. Of course, there are exceptions. But in the case of fuel that you have responded to , what is your take on Dem Pritzger? Again, it's localized, but Illinois has been consistently higher on gas prices than adjacent states that are GOP....... led by a bunch...so should we vote for him?

But I would be interested in your response to

It isn't always the lowest, but I just stick with Costco. Illinois was cheaper than Indiana and Michigan when I went to the Detroit area a couple of weeks ago. When the Republicans run Darren Bailey, I have no choice but to vote Democratic. Gov. Rauner didn't do Illinois many favors.

People can complain all they want about the Illinois gas taxes. Keep in mind, Pritzker, unlike the guy in a white house out east, doesn't rule or make laws by Executive Orders, and ignoring the General Assembly. They follow the laws that require drafting a bill, discussing it in committee, passing it out of committee, taken to the House floor, debated, passed (or defeated), then onto the Illinois Senate for same procedure before getting to the Governor's desk for signing or veto.

Think mathematics: gas tax is .48.3 cents a gallon now. The increase of 1.7 cents scheduled for July 1 was paused
until January 1, 2027. A brief history:

"Key Milestones in Illinois Gas Tax History 1990-2019 (The 19-Cent Era): Illinois set its state motor fuel excise tax at 19 cents per gallon on January 1, 1990. This rate remained completely unchanged for nearly 30 years.
How many years did people complain about failing roads during that 30 year period?

On June 28, 2019, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a $45 billion capital infrastructure plan. Effective July 1, 2019, the state gas tax instantly doubled from 19 cents to 38 cents per gallon. The 2019 legislation introduced an automatic annual adjustment tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to raise funds for ongoing road and bridge repairs. This mechanism caused the state gas tax rate to creep upward year after year.
Rates and Adjustments: Regular annual inflation adjustments pushed the state gasoline tax to 48.3 cents per gallon. Lawmakers later acted to halt a scheduled mid-2026 inflation hike, keeping the state gasoline tax rate at 48.3 cents per gallon through the remainder of the year."

People still complain about roads, but it's usually roads near them. If they say Illinois has worst roads everywhere, I
almost reply that I was impressed they've been on every Interstate, US Route, and State Route in Illinois.

You can't tell me those in Central Illinois haven't seen a noticeable increase in quality of roads and bridges since this tax was first increased?

Yes, I'm among those not happy with majority of Road funds diverted to Chicago mass transit. But we shouldn't feel those effects for a couple years. Any road upgrades planned for next 5 years have already been approved and funds allocated.
The 48.3 cent gas tax is there whether price is $2.99 (average Midwest was $2.67 in February) or $4.57 (prices jumped .50-.55 cents today),
Take a deep breath and think why the gallon of gas is almost $2 higher.
It's not because of "Pritzker's" gas tax.

My opinion and I don't care what others think.

Speaking of prices I noticed today: a jump from around $4.00 or $4.01 to about $4.57 or $4.59. Exception is Freedom Gas in Creve Coeur was $3.98, as of 7:30 pm when I was on my way home.

Those who still complain about Pritzker's gas tax, be sure to email your complaints to him about today's jump due to the Iran War. Thank you for your consideration. (Sarcasm)

DennisinPeoria : JB has issued over 110 executive orders just in his first 2 years in office.
You might consider changing search engines....yours is broke.

"People still complain about roads, but it's usually roads near them. "

I increasingly find that people complain most about roads that are not maintained by the state. They still think they are 'state' roads. Counties, municipalities, townships, even some HOAs maintain roads too. The one's actually maintained by the state tend to be pretty good.
