I think the Steak N Shake Signature experiment that badly, badly failed took a lot of time, attention and money away from other things. Consequently, it seems, that things were never the same after that colossal failure. It could be that they were expecting to rebrand all their stores if that had been a success and there was no Plan B when it was not a success.

It does seem kinda strange. I just looked and in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, there are about 6 out of 15 that are marked as "temporarily closed" on their website.

Seeing this topic I looked up their Fredericksburg, VA store. Think it was probably their only store in VA. It opened in a somewhat out of the way place in Fredericksburg. There were hardly ever any cars in the parking lot. A few months ago we drove by there and it was open. It is now closed,

A few years ago they opened one in Millersville, MD. It was a very high profile event. A couple of years later it closed when the owner defaulted on a 3.2 million bucks loan. I think it finally did reopen as a Steak N Shake.Wonder if any of the other closed storeswill be auctioned off.

In recent days there have been 2 more Steak N Shakes closed in St. Louis over financial issues.

Also, in recent days, there has been a store closed down by the health dept.for multiple issues in the Indianapolis area. If the issues are addressed and they pass inspection they can reopen. However, some people think that it just might end up closing permanently. Time will tell.

Unless a relative saw incorrectly, it looks like the University and Grand Prairie Steam n Shakes closed today.

@NoTime :

The one at 3200 block of University is closed for maintenance, No idea what possible issues but they do plan to reopen when the issues are cleared up, However, we have heard that before.

I really like the burgers at TnT's in East Peoria. Not sure if the Heights location has the same menu, but they have good burgers and wings.

I do like the fish dinners at Culver's. Growing up in WI, it was THE place to go for fish fry during lent. It was a family owned, local restaurant with a few locations in WI. Now that it is a larger chain, I don't hardly go there. lol. But I do like it. Of course franchising it has changed the food, and the menu but its still good food.

The reason that these closed is money they were not bringing in the cash. End of story.
