Wow. $6.99 for a dozen eggs? Good thing we don't eat very many. I'm guessing a gallon of milk isn't $2.89 anymore either. Guess who would get knocked out in the first round of debates!

@PeoriaIllinoisan : well, I don't suggest throwing eggs at the opponent! Not only is it wrong, but you'd be in the poor house with the chickens!

@mypeez : I bought ground beef at GFS at $2.99/lb. Sav-a-Lot in the Heights has eggs cheaper than you posted. but not every store has the cheapest prices. Kroger still has heavy cream for $3.99/quart while most places are over $6. You'll have to go to Schnucks for the $1.49/lb pork loins. And if you want to run all the way to Rockford, Valli International Market has USDA Choice, Black Angus Ribeye steaks on sale for $8.99/lb, which if they are the same quality as their Choice Angus $7.99/lb NY Strips, go stock the freezer.

@mypeez :
Hy-Vee Grade A Large Eggs
18 ct $8.98

$8.98/18 = $.4988 x 12 = $5.986 a dozen

In other words, don't shop at Hy-vee for eggs. Or asparagus. $2.00/lb. cheaper at Kroger.

@AntiRanchDrssng : Sorry, try $3.49, see www.hy-vee.com/aisle s-online/p/2849570/T hats-Smart-Large-She ll-Eggs. It's like you want to pay too much.

BTW: HyVee isn't a New York street corner selling "loosie eggs" from an 18ct pack.

@mypeez : You asked where I found expensive eggs, and well, there they are in an 18 pk. at Hy-vee....along with their overpriced asparagus.

I got a dozen of large, cage free brown eggs at Sav-a-lot for $3.39 which is a damned good price if you have to put up with Rhode Island Red roosters to get them.
