Black Band Distillery
Anyone been? Besides spirits, they serve food prepared by the former owner/chef of June in the Heights.

@AntiRanchDrssng : Not sure what you mean by this?

José Andrés
en.wikipedia.org/wik i/Jos%C3%A9_Andr%C3% A9s
José Ramón Andrés Puerta (born 13 July 1969) is a Spanish chef, and founder of World Central Kitchen (WCK), a non-profit devoted to providing meals in the wake of natural disasters.[2] A Spanish-born and raised cook, he is often credited with bringing the small plates dining concept to America.[3] He owns restaurants in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Las Vegas, South Beach, Florida, Orlando, Chicago, and New York City.

He was awarded a 2015 National Humanities Medal at a 2016 White House ceremony for his work with World Central Kitchen.[4] In addition, he has received honorary doctorates from Georgetown University, George Washington University, Harvard University, and Tufts University.

I would think that the money invested by the owner should command an elevated price of their product.

@mypeez :
Could be that he means Jose Andres personality, shall we say, which is known to be quite volatile at times. There were a few stories about it being on display at. the now closed FISH by Jose Andres at the MGM Grand at National Harbor, MD. Less extreme stories surrounding his restaurant at Trump Hotel which he pulled out of. He did have a high profile public dispute with Trump over Mexican immigration.He eventually won. Now that Waldorf Astoria is there he is planning a return there with what is described as an avant-grade DC restaurant. Problem is that avant-grade restaurant seems to mean different things to different people. Just saying. It will be named The Bazar and be global modernistic and take guests on a sensory adventure. Quite possible there are issues between Jose Andres and the Spanish design firm Lazaro Rosa-Violain and possibly the Waldorf Astoria.

@mypeez: I've eaten at Andres' Jaleo in DC twice. The menu is mostly small plates with a few entrees. Go look at the menu there and at Black Band. Notice the pricing (minus the Spanish Iberico Jam). So a global celebrated Chef in DC isn't any more expensive than Peoria, IL........

It's kinda sad that a new local business would get bad reviews just from a little post on a local forum.

@skutfarcus : I don't know. The reviews looked pretty good except for a couple of folks who were in a hurry to get to an event. Maybe McDonald's should have been their go to option?

@mypeez :
I remember that article that appeared in the WSJ about the restaurants in Peoria Heights, including June. It said people came from Chicago. Have no idea how many came. Though it was a very, very good article,
So after that he went to St.Louis. Could be he developed a following from those places and elsewhere. So maybe he is trying to get them to come back to Peoria.

A couple of things.
I'm not really bashing them; I just find their pricing a bit high (and that is something I rarely say) when one compares it to a well known Tapas/small plates establishment, which has been in business for decades, is in a "high rent" DC district, and is owned by a globally renown Chef. Maybe to recoup investment or keep the "riff-raff" out?
I loved June restaurant and hated seeing it close. One thing Josh Adams did when he closed June was start a Chef knife company. He kinda dropped off the face of the earth for a bit. Didn't know he was in StL, but good to see him back in P-town.
There was a mention of a menu change. Why put up a menu which will undoubtedly be changed shortly?

@AntiRanchDrssing

Would not surprise anyone if Jaleo DC is Jose Andres top performing restaurant. Like you said, it has been there for decades. It is always packed from opening at 11am to late night. That location alone just about gives him a license to print money. Major law firms across the street and within a couple of blocks. Being on the ground floor of a high rent apt and surrounded by dozens more. Massive amounts of foot traffic in those blocks coming from everywhere. Verizon Center across the street and sitting above the junction of 3 major subway lines feeding into that neighborhood too. Across the street from a major hotel. I am sure he does quite well with embassy business too Always some kind of report of him catering an event, especially the Embassy of Spain. That alone is truly high end business.
Considering the issues he seems to have with landlords there has long been talk that he might own that space where Jaleel sits. He recently announced he will be closing The Bazar in South Florida in March, 2023. It is his only place in South Florida. . He seems to have a number of employees that are still there decades later too.
