@whit That's what they wanted you to believe. The truth is that any agency in Peoria County can talk to each other with a push of a button or turn of a knob. BUT there's a catch....That's assuming each agency had previously agreed to such an option and have signed a authorization to let each other's talk groups be programmed into their radios. So in theory, a Peoria police officer and a Peoria Heights fire fighter could talk to each other, but they don't. However, a Peoria fire fighter cannot talk to an East Peoria fire fighter without using a different radio.

@Whit That's what they say its more to encrypt the transmissions so we the public have no clue how understaffed they are. So we feel safe until SHTF and no cops are able to respond because there are none to spare.

Luckily right now the only thing encrypted is AMT and the SWAT team channel. But yea, I'm sure it'll be more soon.

Prep 2 and 3 and all the special channels are encrypted I still get C-med and ambulance to hospital. Haven't tried lifeflight in a long time though. The fun channel is d150 buses you wanna here some scary crap. Really want to new scanner my base unit is pushing 25 years old but runs 24/7 so can't complain about that.

Sorry @Eye, but those channels are not encrypted. I can hear them all just fine. In fact hearing someone verify a warrant on Prep 2 as I type this message.
