The Circus is in town!

I drive by this every day, and I'm so surprised that no media source covers this at all. Not the Journal Star, not WEEK, not WMBD, nothing. So weird. It's such a spectacle, you'd think someone would have covered it.

Technically, the tent is covering it.
But ya know, a certain team at D150 wins/places in all sorts of competitions, and well.......
But we all know people don't get too excited about the good; they just want the gossipy, scandalous, controversial, negative stuff.

The creation of this thread is the first I heard about it, and I check work emails several times a day. Unless a media worker happens to drive by it, no one knows. 90% of the events that happen, we get emails about it .

You're old enough to remember, as I am, a time when the public learned about stuff from the media because the media had investigative reporters who were always out scouting stories, not sitting around the office waiting for press releases.

True, but who would a reporter call around to see if there's a circus that pops up.And our newsroom doesn't wait around for emails. If someone has heard something, even a rumor, or seen it on social media, the phones get busy. Trust me, I see it everyday.

Ironically in today's world it should be quite the opposite. the media could have a kid sitting on FB joined to every neighborhood group and listening to the scanner. Today's world is an investigative reporter's dream, instead just read the press release and move on to the next story.

It's been our experience that Mondays is the hardest day to get someone to talk to us either on camera, recorded phone call, emailed statement, or Zoom.
We wanted to interview someone Monday about Normal's new fire station going up at Shepherd and Hersey. Reporter called a couple times before leaving station, and while on the way (had another story in Normal too). Always got told they'd get back to him.
We ended up getting video shots of the fire station under construction, thinking that's all we'd get. But decided to stop at Fire HQ on a whim, and suddenly the chief was available.
Possible since Monday is 1st day back to work, people are too busy to talk to media. My opinion and mine alone and not my employer's.

Very true. I'm pretty sure my wife follows ever community page within 30 miles. Every weekend, we have our pick of about 8-10 events to choose from within an hour drive.An intrepid reporter, blogger, or Podcaster could spend an hour or so finding these groups and have a steady stream of events to cover.Pair this with becoming friends with the managers of the Dollar General/Casey's/Hucks in a lot of these small towns and you'd never have to work for a story again.

Went to the circus this afternoon at 2. It was pretty good! Not a fan of the clown (personal preference), but the circus acts were quite talented! Liked the trapeze artists the best. Also, great magic acts, quick change, and lots of juggling. Riding motorcycles in a small metal sphere was really impressive, as well. Looked very dangerous with two bikes racing in the sphere without running into each other!

@DennisinPeoria : There is also the upcoming opening of the newly renovated Normal Public Library coming up very soon Not sure that a firm date has been set yet. However multiple alerts and emails have been sent frequently to the media and elsewhere in the area, The list of recipients if the emails was quite extensive, Has your workplace gotten one yet or has it been overlooked?

I'm pretty sure we have, but some emails go to specific people, not entire newsroom, so that could be a case.
