I would at least take advantage of a "free consultation" with an attorney to see if there are grounds for suing for damages.

Sorry about your hubs loss of sight.

I would contact an attorney to get advice.

In order to recoup any lost funds, you are going to need an attorney anyway.
Find one that specializes in medical type cases.

That is what I would do.

Do you think they would renew his drivers license with center vision site in one eye? I'm so worried they might take that freedom away from him...he's only 63..

@craftywoman :

I think he can get his license renewed.... you should discuss this with his doctor.

I had a high school classmate, who was blind in one eye, and he was able to drive, but he did have a driving restriction, that required extra mirrors to help make up for the larger blind spot that he did have. He couldn't drive any car, it had to specially equipped for him.

If Mr. Crafty can pass the eye test at the drivers facility and doesn't have a medical restriction from the doctor, he should be able to drive. You may have to add some extra mirrors?

If you have lost confidence in this doctor, you probably should get a different one.

Yeah first get copy of medical records then get lawyer records seem to go missing once lawyers get involved. Tell them you are seeking a out of state dr and need hard copy of records they will charge you but just pay fee and get hard copies. Then get a lawyer don't wait to long there might be time limit on case for being able to file malpractice. Would also be getting a whole new DR ASAP would not trust anything said by this Dr.

As long as we're asking for advice....I could use some legal advice on Family law. My daughter is trying to keep her daughter here in town, dad wants to move to AK. He has custody, but no job for last 6 years, and no job prospects in AK. What options does she have?

Do they have joint custody? Or does he have custody and she have visitation rights?

If I were her, I would change the custody to joint custody, try to get full custody and give him visitation rights? She will need an attorney to do that.

She needs an attorney. I do know there are attorneys who do provide family court related legal services for people who cannot afford it. They get a subsidy from the government to provide it. Though with the current state of the state government, I have no idea of the current status of those types of programs.

Try Prairie State Legal services.

Who pays the little ones bills would be 1st question he should have to answer. If your daughter can prove she can support her with needing help that would be in her favor. Next would be pull up arrest records on him to show bad person with no prospects for job.

He is not a bad person....neither is she. He has a wealthy mom that pays for everything. They both made mistakes many years ago over a petty domestic situation involving young parent's, alcohol, and video gaming. The whole thing is family....there is none there, LOT'S here.

I think there are limits on how far away they can move without the other parents consent. But I am not a lawyer, she really needs to talk to one.

Usually, if there is a long distance move, they need to come up with a mutually agreed revision to the visitation arrangement. IE instead of every other weekend, it would change to all summer and all holidays.... they try to figure out an arrangement that provides the same net quantity of time within the constraint of the new travel distance.
