Motorized wheel chairs
I think we need one for my Mom. Anyone know anything about these - have one to recommend or will sell me one?

Here is what I know about motorized wheel chairs:

The tires are VERY VERY EXPENSIVE and wear out quickly. One thing that we did was to put to a thick layer of electrical tape in two strips on each tire, so the tape would wear rather than the tires. Medicaid only pays for one set of tires each year, so my BIL figured out those tape strips help make the tires last longer.

You probably will want to work with her primary care provider and her physical therapist to help get insurance to pay for it. If its required medically, they will refer you to a reputable provider.

My experience with wheel chairs is from when I lived in WI, for my nephew (who has since passed away); so I don't have a local recommendation for you, sorry.

Thank you. That's so kind. It's so hard watching our parents get old. ;-(

I've known a few people over the years that needed these. They all used their chairs until they just wouldn't go anymore. Then, they went and bought a brand new one. I haven't heard of anybody trading them in every year or two like cars. I think it's very sad that these things end up in pawn shops.

Danny has some new items come across the floor that sell reasonable. I have had a few with house clean outs that people put new batteries in and working fine to this day. Most do run the wheels off.
