Sushi Restaurants Now, I've never had sushi, never had the desire to try them, mostly because of my perception of them being mostly seafood based. Tell me if I'm wrong. But apparently sushi is popular enough that I've seen 2 new restaurants soon to open in our area. One is Kobe Sushi, an Asian place featuring a rotary sushi experience (according to the banner sign). It's going in where Jason's Deli used to be in East Peoria. The other is Kanpai Sushi, considered Japanese. It's sign outside has "AYCE", so sounds like a sushi buffet? It's located where Sweet Basil Cafe used to be near Hy-Vee in Sheridan Village. Anyone here experience sushi occasionally or on a regular basis?

Not me, but I have good friends who drive from Chillicothe to Morton to eat at the sushi place there. Oyama or something like that.
I roll my own, sushi that is. Sushi means vinegared rice: it has nothing to do with seafood or raw fish. The reason it is so seafood-oriented is because it originated in Japan which at the time had more seafood and rice than anything else. If sushi was invented in the Midwest, there would be roast beef, corn, green beans encased in mashed potatoes, rolled up in cabbage leaves and drizzled with sausage gravy. That said, I have made sushi rolls with the nori seaweed wrapper rice pull barbecue pork and coleslaw, not to mention some other wild combinations.

Plenty of sushi options without fish, raw or cooked. Most people turn up their nose at the thought of eating raw fish, but I'm convinced that high quality seafood is meant to be consumed raw. Don't knock it until you try it.

Our son lives in Cincinnati and we're gonna try and get in here sometime- www.google.com/searc h?q=roji+cincinnati& ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl =en-us&client=s
I love sushi. And I recently learned that Hadi, the chef at Sushi Ko (formerly Sushi Popo) has retired and sold the restaurant. I'll probably give the place a try, but Hadi was the whole reason to go there.
A crazy combination of food is in Ottawa.....BASH....Burger and Sushi House. They have awesome sushi. However, it now appears that they are doing smash burgers which isn't my thing, but they used to have really good regular burgers. I've been there a half dozen times and the place has not yet disappointed me a bit. They always seem busy. The last time I was there we had the good future to sit at the sushi bar and watch the two guys there making the various types of sushi....mind boggling how good they were....free show with dinner!
