Mitch McConnell

so, apparently there are rumors he is brain-dead. I don't think that is from any official source, but he's been in the hospital for over 2 weeks, so I wouldn't be terribly surprised. It is enormous hubris that these people don't step down... insane.

He is in a coma.Reason to believe that he never really came to much, if at all, since they found him the night he was taken to the hospital
Kentucky has a Democratic Governor who would appoint a replacement.

@AverageSue :
Special Election ... depends on when he would vacate the office.

Should a vacancy occur and trigger a special election, the timing depends entirely on when the seat is vacated:

If the vacancy happens more than 80 to 90 days prior to the regularly scheduled general election, the governor issues a proclamation setting the special election.

If a vacancy occurs during the final months of his term (such as right before the November election), there might not be a separate special election at all, as the winner of the United States Senate election in Kentucky, 2026 would simply be sworn in.

The winner of a special election would serve out the remainder of his term, which ends on January 3, 2027.

I'm not finding that info online. Just the special election would be called.
Can you provide source since my Google-** skills appear to be out of practice?

His wife left on a long planned trip to Taiwan and China on June 17 and returned last Tuesday as planned. Staffers told her there was no reason for her to return home sooner than planned.

Laura Loomer is the one that started the one that first said hs brain dead, She claims she got that news from a high level source,

I always thought that if someone had to leave office, whether because of health, death, or scandal, in an actual election year, the Governor would appoint someone from the same party to the office until after the election, and whomever wins, takes office. Of course, whomever is appointed could run, but not feasible to mount a campaign so close to Election Day.

Sounds like a non-politician/Web influencer is jumping the gun again. Is she trying to endorse someone running for his office?

If he's brain dead, then wondering if 2 Republican leaders spoke to him using mind thoughts....

@DennisinPeoria :
It is quite possible. Apparently, she is friends with two that are kind of circling the wagon. But one of them may be too crazy to even run.

@PIFox :
in the link:
Now, if a U.S. Senate seat becomes vacant, the governor must call a special election. There would be no temporary appointment. Until that election happens, Kentucky would have only one sitting U.S. senator.

If the vacancy happens within 56 days of an election and there is not enough time to hold a special election, the seat would remain vacant until the next regular election.

The next election in Nov. 3. Should something happen to a U.S. senator this year, the cutoff date for special election would be Sept. 8.

Bratcher said if a senator cannot fulfill his or her term and there is not enough time for the governor to set the process in motion, voters would wait until the next regular election.

Bratcher said the change puts the decision in the hands of voters, not the governor, but he hopes the law never has to be used.
