Today we'd all probably be in the nearest creek or some body of water. Emoticon

Grandparents used to tell us about the summer of 1936. They used to sleep in the root cellar below the basement. We aren't even close to that and people are "dying" from the heat. Actually, I've been outside today on and off and if in the shade with a breeze it isn't too bad.

Today I was assigned to shoot video of road construction places, plus the McCluggage Bridge since lanes are being switched as of tomorrow. Because it's for our "Seasonal Vibes" for WMBD+, it meant getting double the video needed to be edited down to a 30 minute feature.
I had plenty of Powerade or Gatorade to drink, plus a Mountain dew for morning caffeine instead of hot coffee. I did fine, never got overheated. I was able to shoot for 10-15 minutes, get back in car to cool off, head to next place. I did cool off for 45 minutes at the station eating lunch and editing the McCluggage video.

What did others here do to stay cool?

In the 70s, 80s, and part of the 90s, we would spend time out at Murphy Rd in Hanna City, IL, swimming at the cliff. At times several 100 people would be attending.

I actually worked outside for a few hours yesterday morning, I was in the shade plus the breeze made it tolerable. Lots of Gatorade. The rest of the day I worked on some recipes and ordered too much stuff off of Amazon.

Not bad in the shade. Wouldn't want to be employed by mowing or landscaping crews today. Seal coating, roofing, construction crews', delivery drivers, mail carriers', garbage men give thanks for what they do.

I have done two 5ks this month in hot & humid weather. It makes my HR higher than cooler days. I much prefer the 40F runs!

@AntiRanchDrssng :
My mother was born in 1936 and my grandmother talked about how miserable it was to be pregnant in that heat. My father came from family of ten kids and talked how they would all sleep on porch at night.

My father was born in 1923 , his father lost the garage he ran in the depression, so my dad was very tight with his money. We had a window fan circulating air, finally got small a/c for living room. Remember a few night us kids slept on couch/bed. Many years later , probably after I graduated from high school we got central air but was used sparingly. Pops always said it's not hot like it was back in 1936. I guess we're all spoiled.

Over the past two days I've been watching a house get re-roofed and I can't believe no-one has passed out and died. They are using ropes, mostly, except for a few manly men. GGrrrr.

@John3569 : HA! Yep, we got central air too but it was only turned on when guests came over. So, I had some friends over and said "we have company, turn on the air!" To which mother replied "those are your friends, just go downstairs where it is cooler".

Most homes in our area in MH are built on concrete slabs with water pipes embedded, and connected to a boiler for heat through the floors. It would take too much reconstruction to try to put in Central Air in our house. Of course, an advantage is when you step out of the shower in the winter, you're stepping onto a warm floor.

Oh yes, apologies to all the undereducated who perform duties that others won't. Keep up the great work.
