Diaz is going to **** a lot of people off. Suing the school board before you're even sworn in? Gotta love it. I should start tuning in to the meetings again, because if this is any indication as to how they're going to go, it ought to be quite a show. www.centralillinoisp roud.com/news/local- news/peoria-judge-de nies-restrainin

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) - Saying they wanted to give the new administration time to explore a proposed sales tax increase, the Peoria Public Schools Board of Education tabled the idea indefinitely. The board voted to give Superintendent Jerry Bell, whose first day in the job was Wednesday, "time to explore and investigate" whether the 1/2-cent sales tax that goes to buildings and maintenance issues should be raised to a full cent. After the meeting, Bell said he would take time to examine the matter, a strong hint that his review will not be finished by the deadline in August get it on the November ballot. […] "I didn't win in court today for a temporary restraining order, but the ends justify the means because we did get the board to actually pull back," Diaz said. "I was able to impact this board by getting that referendum pulled off the agenda today. "I'm going to continue to always be me," he said. "I have been honest and true with the community. They elected me unabashedly. So I need to be me and the actions I've taken even over the last 24 hours. I think people across the community were quite happy." www.centralillinoisp roud.com/news/local- news/peoria-school-b oard-sales-tax/

@PeoriaIllinoisan :
I think there has always been a person or two on the school board that goes against the status quo, but haven't done much about it. Like Sandberg, Diaz might not change much on his own, but people people are going to be very aware of what is going on due to his efforts.

I don't understand why the sales tax issue was even on the agenda. Usually on July 1, the existing school board convenes to finish up any old business, pay bills, honor outgoing board members, and in this case, honor outgoing superintendent. Then new board convenes, officers nominated and selected, new board members, new superintendent sworn in. In my experience in covering this kind of meeting, no new business is on the agenda.

Diaz took action and the constituents supported him. Diaz was effective in creating an opportunity for the public to weigh in on public issues. Change occurred last week regarding the budget hearing process and this week about the Public Facility Sales Tax issue. This is the way it has always been done and nothing to see here seems to be the District's mottos for why so many processes and procedures are not being followed. The BOE needs to follow the law (ILCS) and stop gaslighting board members and citizens/constituents ... anyone who stands up to them. What are we paying for legal counsel that is not keeping the District ie the taxpayer protected from the circus of OMA & FOIA violations? Stay tuned ... me thinks the cavalry has arrived!
