Funny how those with less education often take care of things others won't.

Your opinion is that you are above others. I'm out of this conversation because it's just short of giving you the bird.

I have a college degree and I've worked in the skilled trades for the last 32 years.

I thumb my nose to myself everyday.

I have often wonder about that @collar : how many have them hours of time spent. Is the knowledge and the time spent worth it. Would you have been better focus on something else.

I get it, you think I'm a bad person because I don't agree with you.

@tntrecycling :

Focus on something else? Like what?

I don't look back and wonder about that stuff.

If you're asking if I regret having a college degree the answer is no because I did learn some things that has made me better at my trade. I also have lifelong friendships that I wouldn't have made otherwise.

Life isn't linear. It's not this or that, black or white. Lots of twists and turns. Lots of in's, lots of out's, lots of what have you's.
I navigated it all the best I could but I don't spend much time looking back and wondering "if only……"

@tntrecycling :

Is that aimed at me?

I don't think you're a bad person. Not agreeing with someone doesn't make them a bad person.

The thing is, I'm pro skilled trades. Society has spent the 50+ years telling young people you have to go to college if you want to make something of yourself. And now there's a shortage of qualified people in the trades. A young person could get trained, put the work in to learn a craft and work as many hrs a week they want. And damn near name their wage.

But that doesn't mean a college education is a bad thing.

@collar :
I'm sure it was aimed at me because I'm outspoken about his views looking down on people who are educated. That, apparently, is an opinion he thinks is fantastic.... looking down on other people who chose a different path. I won't discuss it with him anymore. I'm with you... we need both, which EVERY educated person on this thread has been in favor of. The one person who thinks those who went to college took a stupid route is the one who went into a trade. I know lots of people who went into a trade that I hold in high regard. If they **** on people who chose differently, nah... I don't respect that. It's too bad he can't see both should be embraced.

I don't regret college either. I did well in school and got a great career out of it. I have some life-long lessons and friendships. The fact it was a military school gives me some insight into a demographic I otherwise would not. I learned structure and time management as I was a full time student, part time worker, and was a 1LT in ROTC. All at the same time. I wouldn't give up my experiences for the world. They made me what I am today.

Driven by hunger, a fox tried to reach some grapes hanging high on the vine but was unable to, although he leaped with all his strength.

As he went away, the fox remarked, "Oh, you aren't even ripe yet! I don't need any sour grapes."

People who speak disparagingly of things that they cannot attain would do well to apply this story to themselves.
