Is there a spot at the airport to watch planes come and go besides along the road?

@kraziebill : Unfortunately, no. I've found some good spots at each end of a runway and no one tries to shoe me away. Runway 4 on the southwest is the most challenging, but if you know something is on final approach, stopping briefly off Smithville Road should be okay. About 3 to 5pm is busiest.

My wife and I actually flirted with a last minute idea of flying out from Peoria to Denver (either direct or through O'Hare) on Saturday to attend a Cubs/Rockie's game on Sunday. We'd come back on Tuesday. While ticket prices going out weren't bad, coming back were almost double.

Early next year Allegiant will stop serving LAX and focus on Burbank (BUR) . There is also a new terminal in BUR that is nearing completion which sounds like Allegiant will have much more room expand. So maybe, PIA will get the long talked about flight to the LA area. There are a lot of people that think Burbank is more centrally located. Allegiant will also close their crew and aircraft base at LAX.

High costs at LAX are incompatible with Low Cost Carriers like Allegiant Air. PIA-BUR might work. When Austin-Bergstrom Int'l Airport opens a massive terminal expansion in 2030, I see PIA-AUS as well.

@kraziebill: I remember that there was a place to watch with the old terminal, but I'm not sure about the current terminal.

Allegiant Air flight 4902 departed Washington Dulles at 8;14pm ET tonight and is scheduled to land at PIA at 9'05pm CT tonight. It is probably a charter, maybe a repositioning flight for tomorrow. However,Allegiant has used that flight number before for a charter. Most recently for a charter from Dulles to Spokane WA.I thought it might be an Honor Flight but none is schedule to or from Peoria today. Any idea what it is? Interesting.
