It updates the law on the books to include streaming services such as Hulu (my provider) in requiring television commercial volumes be no louder than the program that they are interrupting.

@PeoriaIllinoisan : I thought this had been previously tried and passed at the Federal level? A little internet'ing and in 2010 it was passed, but looks like it was only for FCC regulated broadcast stations.

Loud Commercials on TV
www.fcc.gov/consumer s/guides/loud-commer cials-tv
Do television commercial advertisements sometimes seem louder than the shows they accompany? TV stations are prohibited from boosting the average volume of commercials to levels beyond the programs they accompany.

FCC rules for loud TV commercials are based on the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act.

In addition to some of the auto-leveling features on new(er) TVs ( smarthomeowl.com/how -to-keep-tv-volume-c onstant/ ) there's always 'daBay for an old Terk leveler. Nothing screams quality like 20 year old faded packaging plastic.
