Resurfacing of Route 29 through the viaduct at the north edge of the City will begin the weekend of August 8.

The viaduct will be closed to through traffic at 6 p.m. Friday, August 8. It will reopen Monday (August 11) at 6 a.m. This is the first of two weekends it will be closed.

Northbound traffic on Route 29 will be routed west on Truitt Avenue to Route 40 and reconnect to Route 29 using eastbound Route 17 at Sparland.
Southbound traffic on Route 29 will be routed west at Sparland on Route 17 to Route 40. It will travel south to the Princeville Blacktop (Truitt Ave.) and then travel east to Route 29 in Chillicothe.

Some southbound traffic on Route 29 at Sparland may choose to take Route 17 east and use Route 26 south out of Lacon.
Detour signs will be in place to direct through traffic.
The viaduct will be closed a second weekend to complete the work. Exact timing of that is unknown. Striping and some finish work will be done after the second weekend but no additional closures are planned.
Replacement of the rough road surface through the viaduct will be a vast improvement until the structure can be permanently replaced, hopefully within the next few years. We appreciate your patience.

Man that's gonna make it tough to get to some of my jobs just north of the bridge, like up on Hart and Yankee lanes

@Hip Kat:
I was wondering if it would affect you. From 4th St./Rt. 29 make a left (at the light) onto Truitt, then a right onto Benedict (a block past Santa Fe/4-way stop). After you cross the RR tracks, Benedict winds around, but then you can turn right at Shephard to Yankee Lane. Or, continue on Benedict to where it connects with Hart.
I wouldn't try to take those routes in a semi, but you'll do fine.

Yeah, I feel sorry for anyone who takes the suggested detour. That's got to put you at least 12 miles out of your way!

Bump.
Remember, this is going on again this weekend.
There is a plus side to traveling through Chillicothe this weekend, though. The new Kroger gas station is now open. There's a 10-cent per gallon off discount this weekend, on top of any discount you get with your Kroger Plus card. Hubby filled up his car at $3.04/gallon yesterday Emoticon
