Position Summary
The Custodian maintains the cleanliness and readiness of the church facility during the week, ensuring that our building remains welcoming, safe, and presentable for worship services, ministries, community groups, and special events. This role focuses solely on custodial care; no facility maintenance or repairs are required.
Essential Responsibilities
-Clean and sanitize restrooms; restock supplies
-Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors in common areas, hallways, classrooms, offices, and worship spaces
-Dust surfaces, window sills, and furniture as needed
-Empty trash and recycling throughout the building and prepare for weekly pickup
-Clean glass doors and entryways
-Monitor church supplies such as paper products, soap, and trash liners, notifying supervisor when restocking is needed
-Report any maintenance concerns (leaks, broken fixtures, etc.) to the supervisor promptly—no repairs expected
-Other duties as assigned that support cleanliness and hospitality
Qualifications
-Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred, but not required
-Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
-Reliable, punctual, and attentive to detail
-Demonstrates respect for the church environment and the people who use the facility
Physical Requirements
-Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift during normal custodial tasks
Work Environment
The church is used throughout the week for worship, meetings, community groups, music rehearsals, and hospitality events. The custodian will interact with staff, volunteers, and guests in a friendly and respectful manner.
