For some reason, the original thread is locked??? Anyway... went there tonight to avoid all the corned beef and cabbage craziness and the sign said "Temporarily closed for remodeling".

Since the place had some remodeling done to it (especially the bar) before it opened, this doesn't sound good.

I went there about twice a month or so. The buffet always looked like about the same food. I usually hit the salad and sushi bar.

Will have to track down the owner and see whats up. Emoticon

We had a fairly bad experience there with a really big group. It was on a Sunday and the food pickings were incredibly slim, about two scoops per warmer pan. I had hoped that our presence would encourage them to cook some more but it did not. The dressing was really low and I know they just added water because when I went back the tub was more full but incredibly thin suddenly. They failed a few inspections too, probably just need new management, not a remodel.

@QuispNQuake :
Not really. Often times it means financial issues that in all honesty they are sometimes try to resolve.

I walked past a Chick A Filet today that was "Closed for Maintenance" dont know what the story is there. it did seem like there were some people working in the back of the kitchen.

The best story of all is Carnegie Deli a landmark in NYC. They fired a manager who immediately blew the whistle that they had rigged up some system for gas that totally by passed all city inspections. They were immediately shut down "for maintenance" and that was followed by problems with wages and tips for employees. No one ever expected it to ever reopen. But they did a few weeks ago after being closed for months and spending millions to correct all their issues .They also got a tough lecture from the judge in court.

@QuispNQuake I'm thinking "business isn't what we had hoped, let's shut it down to stop the bleeding and decide on what we should do going forward." Or "Hmmm....how do we stop this chefkevin character from coming in frequently and eating his fat *** weight in sushi?" Emoticon As far as I know, his other restaurants are doing well, so who knows what is going on.

Hokkadio. He owns (or at least used to) Hong Kong Buffet. He also has a restaurant (don't know the name) in the Quad Cities.

That place is hard to get to and many restaurants in the area. Would have to be outstanding for ones to keep coming and to tell others. I have not been there was waiting to hear positive news first.

LOVE the response!!! So let me leave Peoria COMPLETELY OUT of what I'm about to say next. I'll assume this does not apply to Peoria in any way, okay?

I've lived in 2 cities where it was found that a Chinese restaurant was serving cat. Both were small college towns. In one town, cat heads were found in the dumpster out back.

I'm laughing as I type this. No, it doesn't apply to Peoria. Yes, I'm jaded when it comes to Chinese restaurants. BWAH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!

@QuispNQuake Why keep Peoria out of this. Over the years many reports of cat being severed.

@tntrecycling : I myself have never heard of it happening in Peoria. That's why I excluded Peoria. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean it HASN'T happened in Peoria.

I don't doubt you, but I'm curious, when did I miss this lovely occurrence???? **chuckle**

(And please don't tell me it was China Express on Knoxville because in that case I've eaten countless entire generations of felines!!!)
