5K

Anyone here ever run a 5K whether for exercise or a organized race? I've been thinking about training for one as it is about 3 miles. Yesterday, my FitBit said I put in just shy of 22,000 steps, go on hikes far longer than this will Ramble and I frequently ride my bike anywhere between 8-25 miles depending on time so I would think I should be able to accomplish this. Besides good shoes and a bag of rocks to throw at unruly drivers, anyone have any pointers?

Chef, I have a hard time with stamina. I'm more out of shape than you do it might not be an issue for you.

I bout an app for about $2 for my iPhone. It's a couch-to-5k program. It increases you stamina if you run when the say and walk when they say. I got towards the end but then had the 5k (hadn't finished the program yet). Lately, I've just been doing the 5k events and haven't run between. (Currently in the middle of "crap" and haven't had time. )

I've got another 5k next weekend.

@ChefKevin, a friend of mine trained with the Couch to 5K app, too. She's run at least two since...but in all fairness, she's young and fit already. I personally couldn't do it. I've never been a runner. I do love biking though but I can't bike more than 12 miles at a time (and that's pushing it). 3-5 per ride is my limit.

Groggy, I can't do the 5k w/o walking parts. But at least I'm out there burning calories! Emoticon

@AverageJoe If you want to burn calories, you can burn some serious ones on a one hour bike trail ride. Upwards of 500. I was shocked when I learned that.
