I'm not okay with the label of surcharge, but I do understand a need to charge more because of price increases.

I will admit that I don't know the costs involved with printing new menus to reflect a price change, but maybe that is why they added a surcharge to avoid the cost of printing the new menus.

Does anyone know what restaurants in Peoria that are placing a surcharge on their food/service?

With the price increase of meats and other items some one has to pay. Unfortunately its us. The owner of the Jerusalem Restaurant was paying around $400.00 for his meats over the last 2 months it has jumped to $525.00. We made him new menus so he didn't have to pay for them but the cost if you don't know how to is costly.

@tntrecycling :
I have heard a number of times menus are expensive. A friend of my wife is an art teacher. Like you, she did one for a restaurant and another one for someone else. Now she has a little business going for herself when she retires in a few years.

@billybob : I don't mind doing little project for people. I wouldn't want to do it for a living.

Just as prices go up people are taken advantage of. This should be controlled by the Government but yet here we are. Let things keep going it wont matter because we wont have places to buy from. I know people today who are going to the farmers and buying cows then having the butchered to save cost. Need a freezer to store but its cheaper in the long run. I hope this chaos going on never think about power companies. Major power loss would be devastating.

Kroger has chuck roast on sale this week for $3.99/lb. I'm going to buy about 5 pounds and make my own ground beef.

This could be really helpful. While the higher costs are understandable, it'd be nice to know this beforehand heading somewhere and not have to be surprised by it.

@FlounderFish : I think most restaurants have their menus and pricing on Facebook. So, I know I'm going to look up my favorite restaurants and take a look at their updated menus and pricing this week, including Avanti's, Gil's, The Fish House, Alexander's, our favorite pizza places, and others.

I definitely don't think Virus surcharges should be added to checks or services. No one's fault it hit us.

I would disagree with charges "Just because." However, if these charges are to cover the new expenses (like masks, having to revamp dining rooms, eliminating 50% of potential customers due to social distancing rules) then yes, I think this is necessary the same as many businesses had to add a fuel surcharge years ago when gas prices were so high.

At the same time, I feel they should consider adding a layer of transparency and either update their menus (not ideal because it would add to the expense if they weren't going to update them anyway), or post something saying "Due to new expenses and circumstances, in order to keep our lights on and employees paid, we will be assessing a $x.yy service charge to each main entree to defray costs involved with Phase Three of the covid plan. Please see a manager for an explanation of these fees if desired."

I may be in minority but I get the surcharge. Ate lunch at a local pub yesterday. No up charge on bill but they certainly have added costs. Tent rental and installation, wipes and sanitizer at every table, loss of parking/less customers, labor to clean after. Glad I'm not in the business. I'd be a mindless wreck
