Virus Surcharge Ridiculous
I read that many restaurants are adding a virus surcharge because they lost business. The virus wasn't my fault. I myself have lost almost $5k so far so does this mean as a musician should I tell folks my fee will be an extra $25 for a virus surcharge? Ridiculous!

You don't have to go to a business if you don't agree with their charging practices.

I won't but the point is that we should not tolerate gouging and that is exactly what they are doing. Many of these folks have said on television that they make more on unemployment benefits than they did working. Why use this tragedy virus as an excuse to take advantage of folks?
I couldn't imagine telling someone who needed my organ music that there will be another fee because I lost money from the virus.

I definitely don't think Virus surcharges should be added to checks or services. No one's fault it hit us.

However, I did tip my haircut lady $10 knowing she's not worked for 2 months. She tried to refuse it, saying she did get unemployment. I insisted anyway. She appreciated it.

I just got my hair cut and gave her 20.00 extra. I don't mind tipping but I will be damned if they tell me I have to.

I got a pedi on Sunday and tipped the guy $20.00. I also had a gift card for the establishment but didn't use it, I figured they could use the cash.

It's not because they lost business. It's because their costs have gone way up. Rather than raise prices, they're doing this, hopefully, temporarily. I don't mind it if it keeps a locally owned business open.

I can't help it rains but the city charges me a fee because it does.

But I agree, if they charge an additional fee, it at least should be mentioned first and upfront even though I don't think it is right. Print temporary menus with higher costs explaining their food costs have spiraled. If people don't understand that, they can go to the grocery store and pick up some $5/pound ground beef, $8/pound bottom round, $3.99/pound pork loins, etc. and cook them at home. They should be pretty good at this by now Emoticon

Like I said, many of these folks were on the news saying they get more on unemployment than they did working. So why the surcharge? Gouging and taking advantage of a situation. Don't tell me prices went up. I know that. I was buying 3 lbs of hamburger before this started for $6 when on sale. Last week I paid $12.97.
I finally get one call for an organist after all this time. Do I tell the folks I lost 5k so far and need to tack on a virus surcharge? I lost money, lots of money. Ridiculous...…..

@Sonny76 : Should restaurants absorb those higher prices? How will they make money?

@skutfarcus : But they don't have to charge based on a virus. That is gouging. If you raise prices because of meat increases, so be it but not virus charge. That is ridiculous

Ever ship anything by UPS? They would tack on a fuel surcharge when diesel prices spiked. Airlines have done it as well.

@Sonny76 : Go into GFS and see what the cost of 81/19 ground beef is. It was $13.99 for a 10 pound tube before CV-19 came around. Last week it was $39.99. Most restaurant owners I know do not have the time to run around all over God's creation to buy one thing here because it is cheaper, then one thing over there, and another items over there. I'm glad you found a great deal but that is certainly not the norm at the moment.
