@Msgem : Congrats to him! That Navy background will serve him well and I appreciate his service. My youngest son, a Naval Academy grad, served in the Navy on a Nuclear Sub for a short few years, and then, had to leave the Navy because he had Crohn's disease. He has since worked in the Nuclear Power field. A few years ago he was sent all over the world to handle nuclear waste at nuclear power sites including those in IL, CA, and those in Fukushima, Japan after the nuclear disaster there. He had a group of Navy Seals assigned to him in Japan who assisted him with the disaster cleanup.

@Mahkno : You know, I'm torn when I read this. I understand the outbreak, but there is also truly a need to maintain deployment readiness. I can't image what is going on aboard other ships & subs.

Nearly 3,000 sailors aboard a U.S. aircraft carrier where the coronavirus has spread will be taken off the ship by Friday, Navy officials said Wednesday as they struggle to quarantine crew members in the face of an outbreak.

So far, fewer than 100 of the nearly 5,000 sailors assigned to the USS Theodore Roosevelt, now docked in Guam, have tested positive for the virus, but the Navy is moving sailors into various facilities and probably will begin using hotel rooms in the coming days. Navy leaders are talking with government officials in the U.S. territory to identify rooms for the crew members.

@pictureme2 : Nope, he just didn't tow the Trump line.

Trump administration showed 'poor judgment' in removing warship commander
www.msn.com/en-us/ne ws/politics/biden-tr ump-administration-s howed-poor-judg
(Reuters) - Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden said on Thursday that the Trump administration showed "poor judgment" in relieving the commander of an aircraft carrier who sought stronger measures to control a coronavirus outbreak onboard.

"Donald Trump's Acting Navy Secretary shot the messenger - a commanding officer who was faithful to both his national security mission and his duty to care for his sailors, and who rightly focused attention on a broader concern about how to maintain military readiness during this pandemic," Biden said in a statement to Reuters.

"And the Navy sent a chilling message to the rest of the fleet about speaking truth to power. The poor judgment here belongs to the Trump Administration, not a courageous officer trying to protect his sailors."

The commander, Captain Brett Crozier, was removed from command after writing a scathing letter to Navy leadership about conditions on the nuclear-powered carrier that leaked to the public.

The 1,000-Bed Comfort Was Supposed to Aid New York. It Has 20 Patients.
www.msn.com/en-us/ne ws/us/the-1-000-bed- comfort-was-supposed -to-aid-new-yor
Such were the expectations for the Navy hospital ship U.S.N.S. Comfort that when it chugged into New York Harbor this week, throngs of people, momentarily forgetting the strictures of social distancing, crammed together along Manhattan's west side to catch a glimpse.

On Thursday, though, the huge white vessel, which officials had promised would bring succor to a city on the brink, sat mostly empty, infuriating executives at local hospitals. The ship's 1,000 beds are largely unused, its 1,200-member crew mostly idle.

Only 20 patients had been transferred to the ship, officials said, even as New York hospitals struggled to find space for the thousands infected with the coronavirus. Another Navy hospital ship, the U.S.N.S. Mercy, docked in Los Angeles, has had a total of 15 patients, officials said.

"If I'm blunt about it, it's a joke," said Michael Dowling, the head of Northwell Health, New York's largest hospital system. "Everyone can say, 'Thank you for putting up these wonderful places and opening up these cavernous halls.' But we're in a crisis here, we're in a battlefield."

Thanks for the info. I'll have to ask my son about this as he still has friends in the military and he still works in the nuclear industry. **On the lighter side, one of his close friends is Admiral-Select Peterson whom I have met a few times. Admiral-Select Peterson's lovely wife used to be a background singer for Johnny Mathis. Just shows how opposites attract.
