@tntrecycling : ..I have never liked Trump..has nothing to do with him being the President.....there was a time..about 8 years ago when he was on tv, talking about what he would do if he was President..and I thought..hey, maybe he wouldn't be so bad..but when he ran..it was like a big "nope" for me. Even my very Republican husband wouldn't vote for him... I think a lot of his problem is that he's a Democrat..trying to act like a Republican and it doesn't look good on him..plus he's just not all that smart..I agree with you about China..they dropped the ball in the first place..but that didn't mean that Trump needed to drop it too...

well said. The election of 2016 amounted to the lesser of two evils. I didn't cast a vote for either of them at the time. I probably won't vote for either candidate in 2020 either the way it looks to be shaping up. But I'd sooner have Trump than Biden.

Today's report looking grim, folks. Going to get worse before getting better, I'm afraid.

From the PJS:

Eighteen more dead and 1,105 new coronavirus cases in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD - The state of Illinois on Sunday reported 18 more deaths and 1,105 new cases of COVID-19, according to a release from the Illinois Department of Health.

Cook County reported 12 of the deaths. Two deaths came from Kane County and one each were reported from DuPage, Kendall, LaSalle and St. Clair Counties.

Ages of all but two of the deceased were from the 60s to the 90s. The other two were in their 40s and 50s. Twelve were male and six female.

Knox County was one of four counties reporting cases for the first time. The others include Bond, Menard and Montgomery.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 4,596 COVID cases, including 65 deaths, in 47 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to 99 years.

This is a post from a very good friend of mine...He is an Infectious Disease Doctor fighting this virus in Atlanta..they flew him there from Indiana to help out...... as you can see by his post..the meds that Trumps Doctor is pushing isn't doing crap..( As of right now, I don't think any of them are doing ****. News flash last night that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are useless (imagine that). Vitamin C infusion for 3 days - gimme a break. Tocilizumab (investigational IL-6 inhibitor) very conditional maybe. One patient, after 400 mg over one hour, and he's remained afebrile. Coincidence? Probably. Another received it yesterday, and still with high fever.)

@craftywoman : One would think that there would already be / have been similar drug trials going on in mainline China. Efforts by the Wold Health Organization are listed here: www.who.int/blueprin t/priority-diseases/ key-action/novel-cor onavirus/en/. I believe that certain governments are focusing their research efforts on different assigned items; Australia is working on a vaccine. Skip ahead to 23:15 minutes into this 60 Minutes Australia piece.

From everything I have read on China..what actually worked there was the "distancing' of their people..Chinese are so different then us..when they were told to go into lock down...they "actually" went into lock down...all the shops closed..everyone stayed home..unlike us...people are all over the place...I see FB posts of my friends..they still have their kids and grandkids coming over..not me...I'm only out every other week to get supplies if needed...In
Italy..they tried locking down..but people still took their kids over to their parents houses , so they could visit Grandma/pa and then basically killed them (Italy's words, not mine) Kids can be carriers and not show symptoms..My neighbor keeps posting about being safe..stay home..and yet their adult kids are over all the time..plus their boyfriends..when I said something to them their reply was..well they don't mean stay away from family..stupid..I think it will be interesting to see how we treat Easter Sunday..I have cancelled my dinner plans with family..Grandkids Easter Baskets will be placed on their front porches the night before..I have a feeling most people will keep their family dinner plans..and more will come down with it...

In some places when the lockdown was announced crowds turned up on playgrounds to play basketball. That lasted a few hours before crews were dispatched to take down the basketball hoops. Problem solved.

On public buses, many cities will not allow you to use the front door to enter and leave the bus. You have to use the rear door. There is no fare collection. There is no real contact with the driver. When lock downs were announced there was an increase in passengers that seem to be going to the playgrounds. So they increased the amount of time between buses. Problem solved.

Look for Gov Pritzker's press conference this afternoon to extend Illinois shelter at home order until April 30th, same as Feds.

It's official

My daughter-teacher can now plan online Spanish lessons. Her school was officially on Spring break last week anyway.

Now she can conduct e-learning plans, probably with a little help from a 15-month old assistant, lol.

NPR is hosting the graphs displayed at the White House briefing yesterday on 3-31-20. Source is the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME):

University of Washington and the IHME have done projections for Illinois and all the states. The graph is actually interactive with a day by day slider bar in the link, probably the best I've seen done so far:

The analysis concludes that Illinois will have a sufficient number of hospital beds but will fall short by about 15 percent on the number of intensive care unit beds needed.

The fully interactive link is here:

So here is another interactive COVID-19 chart, aatishb.com/covidtre nds/
It is worldwide but plotted daily since the outbreak on a log-log scale. You can see the cases in China, South Korea and Japan dropping off.

The explanation behind its development is here:

New web site of inspiring stories and information in this virus war in Illinois.

www.enjoyillinois.co m/allinillinois

Also read where the CEO of the New England Patriots, who is also on a hospital board in Boston, donated his jet to fly to China to pick up tons of PPE gear for Boston. With China recovering from the Pandemic, they have a huge backlog of PPE gear that's been manufactured, but never shipped. Pritzker's been on the phone with CEOs, WH advisers, and others; been told that other private goods are also being shipped!
Umm, that's nice, but I would think that PPE would take precedence.
