PEORIA - A former Peoria County Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested for driving under the influence after he allegedly struck the Peoria County Jail while driving in the facility's parking lot.
Todd J. Foster, 53, of Hanna City was booked into the jail on DUI charges. He was released at about 3 p.m. Thursday after posting $100 bond.
According to a release sent by Sheriff Brian Asbell, a lieutenant with the Sheriff's Office suspected an intoxicated driver in the 6900 block of Plank Road at about 3:40 a.m. The car was stopped near the rear parking lot of the jail. At that point, the lieutenant noticed the driver was Foster and told him to pull into the sheriff's office complex so he wasn't on the side of the road.
"Foster did not comply and continued driving through grass area of compound then turned into employee parking lot and continued driving through this lot until he collided into a west wall of the jail complex building," the sheriff said in a news release.
The matter was turned over to the Illinois State Police, who handled the criminal allegations of the investigation.
There was no structural damage to the building, and no one was injured, the sheriff said.
Asbell said Foster had retired in March 2017 after serving about 27 years with the Sheriff's Office.
