Political Discussion Guidelines

PDC'ers, please keep to these guidelines when discussing politics on the forums.

Although politics have been especially heated this year, I expect the discussions to not revert to name calling or being mean spirited to other members on here.

----------

Political Discussions:

Politics can be a difficult subject to discuss in mixed company on an online discussion board. Members are expected to try to keep things somewhat civil.

Some Important Guidelines if you want to discuss politics on PDC:

-- Absolutely no name calling when it comes to other forum members.

-- It's OK to say someone's opinion about XYZ is stupid, but please do not revert to calling other members stupid. It's the opinion of the moderator that this subtle change in discussing politics can have a big effect on the civility and productivity of political discussions online.

-- If you have a written strongly worded criticism, you should back it up with substantial reasoning and opinion.

-- These rules of civility apply to other forum members, and although we encourage members to keep things civil at all times, it is not a requirement to be so civil to politicans themselves, because they are not fellow forum members. So, calling Trump "stupid" is OK. Calling Clinton "stupid" is also OK.

--------

Very few people follow the above guidelines 100% of the time, and I'm not going to get on everyone's case every time they cross the line...but if I see it happening over and over, I'm going to call people on it.

Talking politics is a full contact sport. And like a solid game of poker, there are real stakes.

People win, people lose and people get hurt. If you cannot take an elbow to the ribcage or are squeamish at a little blood on the floor, you should not be playing. If people want to say dumb things or get angry, let them. It shows who they are.

Everyone should play to some degree because everyone has to 'ante up' whether you keep your hand or fold. There is no walking away from the table.

@Mahkno -- A little of that is fine, and people need a bit of a thick skin to discuss politics. But the above guidelines are reasonable, and are needed to prevent the hatefest that a lot of forums turn in to when it comes to politics.

@PeoriaDotCom Great guidelines. As I tell my students, "Sometimes we just have to agree to disagree and our discussions must always be respectful of one another's beliefs!"

@jnj @meanjarhead

I'm leaving the above post here, In case people were confused about why this guy might have been banned in the first place.

This is the type of abusive garbage that needs to stay off the PDC forums.

If you don't like the rules and guidelines on these forums, or how they are enforced, there are other forums...no one's forcing you to post here.

I do this for free, guys...I make ZERO $0 dollars from it.
I want PDC to be a relatively nice place to come and chat, that's my entire agenda.
