I have a galaxy s7 edge

@Illinoisjarhead :

I got my s7edge 10 days ago. I'm still trying to figure it out.
If I take mine out to dinner, it's for the granddaughter to fiddle with.

I got my s7 edge 3 weeks ago. I had a Galaxy s4 5 days after they came out and I was still finding things hidden in it when I gave it to my 16 yr. old grandson. My wife says, "You and that d#!@ phone." I have to remind her that the difference between a man and a boy is the price of the toy.

Thats funny. You sound like my brother. He has a Jitterbug. He just wants to call and be called, thats it. Verizon has walk-in free classes on smartphones. They sure make using one so easy.

I do wonder though...

If one had gone to a similar location 30 years ago, is it likely one would have seen a few people reading a book or magazine, one or two others going through a day-planner organizing their week, a few writing letters or making lists....

I remember an argument I got into with my aunt a few years ago during a family visit. Every time she had the opportunity she would tsk tsk and squawk "there he goes again, playing with his phone, these kids today and their phones...blah blah blah" She just flat out refused to accept that I "wasn't playing and addicted to my phone" but using it as a tool which replaces several other objects. The night before, I was reading a book on my Kindle app. then that day, dad mentioned he needed a new blade for his mower, so I added something to my shopping list in my notepad app. Then mom wanted to know what time a show was on NPR, so I looked that up on their site, and then wanted the number to a place we were eating to make reservations, so I looked that up too. I suppose had I taken out a scrap of paper and wrote "mower blade" on it and stuck it in my wallet, then gone to the hall closet and gotten out the phone book and told mom the phone number, and then called the local radio station and asked for their time schedule, that wouldn't have counted as "playing."

However I digress I do find it distressing when I go out with friends and they either play with their phones the whole time (often making plans for whatever is after our outing) or texting others during what I consider "our time." Usually when I notice this I make a point to say "oh, it's phone time" and will pick mine up and start facebooking too, and will make a point to be the last one "done."

Yeah, it has been decades since I've seen so many people "praying" before they eat (hands together, head bowed).

It infuriates my parents when I check a text or something. I try not to unless there is a dull roar in the conversation. But that phone is fine and dandy when they need to know where to buy something or go somewhere.... (yes, they do not have a computer or smartphone.)

Sometimes they are sitting across from the table texting each other instead of talking to each other. Have seen that happen more than once. I was told that is the way because they don't want other people to hear their conversstion.

As for a server on the phone , that is grounds for dismissal in a number of restaurants.

On a side note the quiet car on Amtrak in the NE corridor has become so popular they might add a second one. There is no loud talking allowed. No cell phone conservation allowed. If you are listening to music, watching movies etc. you must have earphones. All of it is strictly enforced by Amtrak personnel and fellow passengers. Violators will be asked to move to another car. High profile people have been asked to move including Gov. Chris Christie.

@billybob :

If I am having that type of conversation, I'm not in a busy restaurant. OTOH, there are people out there that have any conversation that sounds like it is being sent through a Marshall amp on 10.

Like I have stated before they just want you to have them so they know what every one is doing. Give out the Obama drug phones.

People on their phones in check out lanes or restaurants just annoy me, I don't want to stand/sit and wait for you to finish your conversation before I can either place my order or pay for what I ordered.
