State Farm vs. AllState
We've had State Farm insurance for decades, but for various reasons, are thinking about switching to AllState. I can't find an impartial article online about which company is better. Does anyone have any personal insights to offer? This would be for home and car.

I work for both companies and many more. You will get better repairs from State Farm IMO. Allstate cuts corners on repairs IMO and forces lower labor rates.

I have Westfield through an independent insurance agent. When hubs hit a deer last fall, we took the vehicle to a body shop of our own choosing, whose estimate was approved right away. The repair took awhile because the replacement door was on back order, but that wasn't the insurance company's fault.

The push by State Farm to enter other business interests; banking, retirement savings, etc... is irritating. I tire of the agent selling insurance and other stuff now, business model.

We really don't like our agent; it is a personality thing but she hasn't wronged us so we are still there. Other than that State Farm has been solid for us.

State Farm here for over 25 years. Never had a problem. We only get a couple mailings a years advertising other services. Wifey thought she was going to convert me to AllState when we got together, but her agent couldn't beat my SF discounts. Emoticon

State Farm has a some deep discounts and benefits on the Mutual side for long term customers.

One of those perks, is that you can pass on a policy to your child, the policy number does not change, and the age of that policy is based on when it was first created and not when the person holding it became a customer. I have a policy that is older than I have been driving.

State Farm is the highest in town. Ask folks in Washington how they like State Farm.

Allstate is terrible when you have claims, but they are probably cheaper up front.

Country Companies is pretty reasonable on both sides.

Liberty Mutual isn't bad either.

Or even better, go to an independent agent and see what they can offer.

I've been with Erie Insurance for awhile. It's more of an east coast company, but they have several agents in Peoria. Haven't used them a lot, but the few times I did, they were really easy to work with.

@jimthompson :

People are generally not happy with how things shake out after an event like that. I also think a lot of folks don't pay too close attention to what policies they do have and so they become surprised/angry/disappointed when things are not as they seem.

@Mahkno Someone else told me this but I didn't understand what the benefits would be based on the age of the policy.

@Mahkno : Agreed and that points back to the quality of the agent/company to care about the customer and make sure their needs are met.

I'm constantly amazed at the number of people that come in stating they thought they had rental car coverage. Most people assume that since they carry full coverage that it includes rental. It doesn't. It is up to the agent to offer all the ''extras'' and a lot in this area don't!

USAA. Best insurance out there, if you're eligible.
