Peoria Stadium for sale

From WEEK:

May 19, 2016 at 4:21 PM CDT

PEORIA,IL--District 150 is looking to sell one of its most visible assets. One board member says the Peoria stadium does not get the amount of use it once did. There are not as many district athletic events held there. He adds there's no point in keeping it long term.

"We feel like we're putting a lot of money into it relative to the value that it's providing today. I think the most important part is that the community and neighborhoods that surround the stadium they embrace what the future plan is for it," said District 150 Board Member Dan Adler.

Adler says selling the property would help the district save money.

Hopefully we wont hear of Walmart trying to get their hands on the property. Has D150 ever had an appraiser of their own appraise that property? The last I knew they were relying on what potential buyers were saying or so it seemed.

@billybob

In 2013 when the selling the stadium to Walmart talk started, the Peoria Park District talked of wanting to take ownership of the stadium. The park district already has a 30 year lease on it (signed in 2006) so the school district would have to get passed that to sell it. The park district was very resistant to it being sold when this first came up.

It makes me wonder if they have a buyer waiting in the wings again.

Shame you have to watch your long memories be demolished. I think they should have a Monster truck show there. Bring in some local bands.

It's a shame the park district has overspent and overtaxed - for all of those who want it to remain green - that was your answer - but, hey, you named a building for the matriarch of this debacle. Happy? With the plight of the state and district finances, the ONLY rational response by the D150 - sorry - PEORIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS (feces on the façade) haha - is to bring the most value for an asset that's lost it as it relates to the school districts needs.
@EBvexed - it's not a lease - it's an MOU that the Park District fell way short in honoring - but it does hinder the ability to sell. The Park District is the one not acting in the publics interest here.....

it's not a lease -

@Ptownliferalmost :

I got my information from a news article from 2013, and although there are other news sources containing the same information about the lease, obviously errors are possible:

"A 30-year lease agreement between the school district and the park district was signed in 2006."

Hard to believe that at one time there were large crowds there for Friday night high school football games. I think Bradley had their football games there too when they had a football team Large crowds there for July 4th fireworks too.
