Taxes

Anybody get their property tax bill yet? Mine went down and up on the same bill. While my property loss value (grrrr.....gotta quit putting money in this house I will never recover) the bill went up with the addition of the garbage tax.

Make the home owner pay for the garbage. I know a few renters that wouldn't pay for garbage service yet they put their garbage out every week.

I would rather pay for the garbage on the property tax bill, because then its part of deduction on your income taxes.

@joepyeweed

A note enclosed with the tax bill states: "The garbage collection fee is not tax deductible; therefore you should contact a tax advisor if you have any questions regarding eligible deductions on your income taxes." So nope on the deduction you mentioned.

Supposedly by placing the garbage fee on our property tax bills the city is saving $150,000 per year. The collection firm that had been doing the billing up to this point was charging $300,000. So Peoria county is now the "collection firm" for the city and the county gets $150,000 for this service from the city! What a bargain!.......

@joepyeweed Yeah, I thought the same thing until I read the letter mentioned above. I'm guessing they are calling it a fee and not a tax so it isn't fee deductible.....

Is April the last month the city is collecting the funds? I thought April was included in the tax bill but I got my usual email from the city telling me they're taking $14.

This is a courtesy reminder from the City of Peoria. On 4/30/2016 your garbage bill will be automatically deducted from your Checking account. The amount due is $14.00.

@lanestar7

That should be your last auto deduct and should be for March, the invoice I received for March 1-30 is due April 30. You might want to contact your bank to make sure the deductions are stopped after April 30, just in case.

does peoria have to pay a waste water bill like pekin has to? every 3 months we get a bill for $136.00. $36 of it is for garbage service, recycling, and yardwaste for the same 3 months. this is on top of the water bill.

Yes, The Greater Peoria Sanitary District bills every 3 months. The bill is just for waste water and is based on your water usage. Less water used=lower sewer bill.

Wow, Pekin is expensive! Our recycling is free although it's only picked up monthly and so is yard waste.
