Since I moved away, I really miss going to the hockey games!!!! I LOVED that whole experience!!

Yes, I could travel an hour or so to see a pro team play, but good God the ticket prices are out of this world!!

Man I really miss the Rivermen games!! Even if they had a lousy season. Not every city has that experience. I didn't know what I had until I couldn't afford it anymore!

There is a wide variety of things around Peoria. One that had my blood for years was Stock car racing.

pretty good trails and golf courses in the area. I would like to see Donovan come back but less and less people are playing golf so it's not that big of a deal.

I've hiked trails in Shawnee National. They aren't any more difficult than what a trek between Wokanda and Detweiller Park would be. Just wish there was better cycling. I love little joints like Schooners, Smo-King Pit, Fedoras, Rhythm Kitchen and Childers. Glen Oak Park. Need to go exploring with PeoriaIllinoisan again. Good to see a small venue like Limelight in town. Rhodells although they should hire this certain Chef I know to pair some killer food with their tasty beer.....

I love all of the music and festivals by the riverfront in the summer. I also like going to the Rivermen games, and especially the Chiefs Games ...that is a great ball park.

I grew up in Chicago, and had my fill of "big city life."

I like that I can live here in the city, and own my own house, backyard, garage, and still afford to buy groceries. I like mowing my lawn with my 40 year old putt-putt mower.

I like being just down the block from a hardware store and countless other small family owned businesses (while they still last,) but still being able to hop on my motorcycle and in 20 minutes be in the middle of nowhere lost in my own thoughts.

I like Leonardo's pizza. I like my friends, I like being part of things in the downtown scene like the St Patrick's Day Parade and Irish Fest.

There's a lot I don't like too. The infrastructure, crime, and the strange decisions that people with controlling dollars make over the rest of us peons.

But I'm happy here.

traveled a lot when i was younger. the majority of the places we went had the same chain restaurants and hotels, mostly looked the same with the exception of a mountain here or a different crop growing there... of course the reason for traveling was to see a specific attraction or to do something special.

there really isn't anything "unique" i can think of that the Peoria area has. at least not in the sense that someone would come out of their way to visit.

on the other hand, if you asked me to pick anywhere else in the US to live right now, i'd have to think really hard about it. i guess what i like about Peoria is along the same lines of what @JeepPilot said:

a) my family is here
b) it's somewhere in-between a big city and the middle of nowhere

easy enough to find something to do if you're looking, or to disappear if you're not.

@Witness :

okay... there is already another thread dedicated to this restaurant. i know you know about it, because you commented in it. re-promoting it like you just did there, maybe it was in jest. i don't know. but... it's bad etiquette and against the community agreement: "No business solicitations, advertisements or spam on the forums, please." - www.peoria.com/commu nity_agreement.php

make sure it doesn't become a frequent thing, or i'll do absolutely nothing because i'm not a moderator and have no authority here.
