Question: 60 yr old where I work is being yelled at and bullied by another co-worker in front of supervisor and other co-workers. I have told the person being bullied to stand up and tell the person to stop that they have the right to demand the person to stop. The person being bullied is afraid of loosing the job if they say anything because the bully has been there for several years and has had many people fired. My question is, what can be done to stop this? I really want to help this person, however, if they won't do anything, what can I do?

Can you ask the one yelling about the problem. Maybe you can find the answer talking to both of them.

How big of an employer is this? Do they have an HR department, or is it a small business? Discrimination laws may come into play if the harassment can be linked to a protected status.

@QuispNQuake The supervisor is a coward and only been there a little over a year and the bully buys breakfast and lunch and I can only guess what else. It is a rotten situation.

@tntrecycling Oh, I have yelled at the bully myself, when that person tired to pull their crap with me. It is a small company and this bully has been allowed to do their crap since new owners took over.

@AV8R Small business about 13 employees total. The business has been around since the 70's however under new owners for the last three years. The person being bullied just turned 60 and does seem to be disabled slightly, I know of a head severe head injury. But I don't know if they are actually classed as disabled because of injury.

They are creating a hostile work environment. I've been there. They best advice I can give is to document incidents after they happen. Witnesses are important too. It's good that you are standing up for him.

Is the (bully) under orders to make it so the other employee quits? When i was delivering I was Training people and also the guy that did the code reds on bad hires. I actually got on to hit me. It wasn't my fault i got 170 cases of beer in the store in the same amount of time he got 40 in there. And he sucked with the hand held also.

go digital. record the bully (every single time)and expose said bully to the higher up's. if that don't work- youtube it.

elderly abuse is against the law, too.

@themrs916 : I was going to suggest the same thing.

Heck Jessie67, if it's posted to YouTube, a bunch of us could "spread the joy" via Facebook! HAHA! **wink**

But find out first if it's legal...

@Jessie67 Caring for ones should be first. Be careful. Hope all works out. Some times just a prayer is needed.

@QuispNQuake as long as you are doing to catch a crime in action it is considered legal. This would be a crime as well as just WRONG. I would come up behind bully and whisper in there ear your next as they are yelling at the other person.

Age is a protected status - just like race, gender, religion, go to the Labor Board.
