East Peoria spring clean up.
Spring Clean-Up

SPRING CLEAN-UP WEEK - MAY 9-13, 2016

The City of East Peoria will conduct its Spring Clean-up Week May 9-13, with some changes in how much material can be set out for pickup and who can participate.

This special collection of junk and brush is open only to East Peoria residents whose garbage is picked up by the East Peoria Department of Public Works. The pickup is not for properties zoned commercial, business or multi-family. Additionally, junk may be set out only at residences that are occupied.

Junk cannot be hauled in by non-residents. Anyone who is a non-resident or not eligible for clean-up week who is caught hauling junk to a city residence will be subject to a fine and hauling fees.

Because there have been those who have abused the clean-up week service, the city has reviewed the procedures for junk and brush collection. The maximum pile size can now be no larger than four feet wide, four feet high and eight feet long, which is approximately the size of the bed of a normal pick-up truck. Any additional items or brush will be left behind and it will be the owner or tenant’s responsibility to remove it.

Junk, garbage and brush must be in separate piles and placed behind the curb in the approximate location of the regular household refuse. Small clean-up week items must be in a toter. A four-foot separation is necessary between garbage toters and clean-up week items. Clean-up week items cannot be set out until the weekend prior to clean-up week, and must be at the curb no later than 5 a.m. on the regular garbage day. If it is not picked up on the regular day, it will be collected the next day.

Accepted items: furniture, mattresses and other household items, tree limbs and brush. Tree limbs must be stacked with the ends facing the curb. Nothing over 3 inches in diameter or longer than 4 feet will be accepted. Leaves and grass clippings are not included. The brush pile size cannot be larger than four feet wide, four feet high and eight feet long, which is approximately the size of the bed of a normal pick-up truck. Additional brush not meeting the pile size will be left and it will be the responsibility of the homeowner or tenant to properly dispose of it.

Not accepted items: TVs, computers, small electronics, tires, white goods, water heaters, water softeners, construction and remodeling materials such as shingles, siding, windows, wood, wallboard or tile; railroad ties, landscape waste, and hazardous waste such as paint, pesticides, gasoline and motor oil. In addition, clothing and other small items will not be accepted because they can be included with household trash inside the garbage toter.

Appliances
Residents are being asked to contact TNT Recycling in order to dispose of washers, dryers, etc. correctly. TNT Recycling may be reached at 635-4642.

Electronics
Due to new EPA regulations, electronics must be disposed of by a licensed recycler. Electronics can be taken to Kuusakoski Recycling, 2022 W. Townline Road, Peoria, IL (309) 691-5015. They are also accepted by Kuhn Enterprise, 309-340-2644.

Automotive Batteries
Automotive batteries can be taken to most battery retailers.

Tire Disposal
Tires cannot be set out during clean-up week. East Peoria Tire & Vulcanizing Co., 2801 N. Main Street and other tire companies will allow residents to drop off tires for a fee. Tires must be free of water and dirt and off the rim.

Recycling
Containers are available at the Public Works Building located at 2232 E. Washington St. Each household is allowed 2 free containers. If residents desire more than the limit, each container and lid are sold for $14.50 each.

Clothing
The city is asking residents to consider donating any clothing items residents wish to dispose of to Goodwill or Salvation Army, or any other organization that will distribute these items to those in need.

This sucks!
We have a huge tax bill for 3 apt.buildings in East Peoria. We must pay a private company for trash pick-up for 21 individuals or families , we can't dispose of yard waste and pay extra for large furniture items tenants or others dump.(in the paid container)
We can not set out items or even a storm damaged tree or other.(for City Pick-up)
We also pay to the City water and sewer bills and huge late charges if we fail to be right on time.

Glad we are not in this for the money.
Sure feels like it, "Taxation without representation"

While I was picking up some recyclables today I noticed a lot of pickers. People are having a hard time today and you can see ones going through things that are set out.

@Normal

You have representation because you vote.
Have you notified your local elected officials about your concerns?
