Long ago, I proposed a law: Anytime a gun is used in a case of legitimate self defense, the person who pulls the trigger should NOT be charged with any gun crimes. This means felons who defend their homes from home invasion should not be charged. And I think only ******s would charge a man with a pot crime in this circumstance.

@peoriapundit Loop holes in laws isn't that kind of what the problem is today. Lawyers find lope holes that get law breaking people off. A law is a law there shouldn't be "that's ok for any one" Just my opinion nothing more.

What got him was the serial number had been removed from gun so stolen from somewhere else. Didn't mention foid card so gonna assume he had one or they would have charged him for that as well. They love to add charges which won't matter come plea bargain time they will whittle it down to some misdemeanor.

If he was a felon his foid card is invalid.

@EyeintheSky So he broke the law. Even though he was protecting him self with the stolen gun or illegal gun. What if the same gun killed that 11 year old boy or one of the other unsolved murders.

@tntrecycling Odds are possible hope they run a ballistics test on on it and compare it to those cases. NEVER should bought stolen gun in first place 1st its just WRONG and illegal 2nd like you said it could have been used in another crime and guess who's gonna get the charge for the other crime.

Leave it to Peoria to dish out the biggest catch 22 ever, I support what the guy did but don't support the stolen gun or using it as a felon.

Chicago stations too. Cable channels with legal reporters are having an absolute filed day with this story.

@EyeintheSky

There for awhile there were some reports on some out of town stations that there were also some outstanding warrants. However, this morning they have dropped that part of the story.

I looked up the criminal records for the shooter and for the man shot and killed (this is just for Peoria County) and they both are felons. Can you guess what terrible crimes they received felony convictions for? You guessed it....... drugs! Shooter for weed (intent to deliver, probation) (2014), the deceased man for cocaine (manufacture/delivery, 45 days, probation)(2006).
