Will prosecution use Schock news conference as reason to oppose a move in trial from Springfield to Peoria? In other words did the new conference taint the jury pool?

@Byron

I dont think it tainted the jury pool that much if at all. I do think that the prosecutor will use the press conference as another tool to oppose moving the trial from Springfield to Peoria.

I do know with absolute certainty that, it all again, provided lots of teaching opportunities for some law school classes and there will be a question in the upcoming final exam that is based on these events.

I seriously doubt DOJ will oppose a change of venue to Peoria in this particular case. In fact, I suspect they welcome it.

I think the reason they won't object greatly surpasses the convenience of the prosecutor.

If they move it to Peoria, there is more opportunity for the media to cover other aspects of Shock's previous life, etc. Yesterday, I was looking at an old picture of some of my friends, myself, the honorable Bob Michel, and Aaron at a fundraiser golf outing from a few years ago. I used to be involved with PAC for my employer before I retired last year. I'd like to cut Aaron out of the picture😚

@ricardo :

that's a damn good question, and one I don't have an answer for. I may be wrong on the change of venue, I guess time will tell.

maybe Peoria prosecutors know schock too well since schock has had his office at the Peoria federal courthouse the last six years.

@billybob On what grounds do you think the prosecution will oppose moving the trial?

Any number of reasons including that all the work has pretty much been done in Springfield including the grand jury. When the motion is denied it will be several steps closer to a plea bargain, Too many details will come out in a trial. No pun intended.

@Byron
It is possible Schock would like to use the fact that news coverage is lacking inPeoria because of the situation of the Journal Star. In Springfield that is not the case. Reporters are there from all over the state----Schock trial or not. Also, above all else,he wants to preserve his image so the less news coverage of the trial the better it is for him.

They're going to use Schock as an example of what happens to corrupt politicians. Even though many probably pad their pockets with false expense reports, the fact is that Schock got busted for it. And the feds are going to make him the poster boy.
