Too bad. I wish I knew you were working on this. I've been working with some area students to collect data from local weather stations (via Weather Underground) and analyze it. Always looking for another online station, and cover the cost of the difference between stations if the price is in the realm of reason for us. Probably too late to return it now.
Your outdoor component requires batteries. I'd be glad to help hardwire it if you're interested so you don't have to get up on the ladder or whatever necessary to change the batteries.
