Peoria Marathon yesterday....

Just curious, did anyone have any experience with the marathon yesterday? Did you watch? Traffic issues?

My only experience:

I went somewhere for a carry out order around 530 and someone in line was still in their marathon outfit. Is that the normal M.O.? I've never ran in one so I have no idea.

1st thing I thought of, kraziebill. I know the tradition of having a few beers after a race , which I wholeheartedly support, but I would think you would want to get cleaned up shortly thereafter.

My husband is in the hospital and the race made it a bit harder for me to get there first thing in the morning.

My daughter and son-in-law ran in the Marathon Relay with another couple. This was their 2nd year. They called themselves "The Double Daters", and wore pink shirts with the phrase on back, "Something more than a dinner and a movie". My wife and I helped drop off/picked them up, and the wife of the other couple to the exchange sites. Then we went to the Civic Center Arena where the finish line was. The husband of the other couple ran the 1st leg, son-in-law ran 2nd, wife of other couple ran 3rd, my daughter ran 4th leg, the longest, as it winded through Glen Oak Park.

Had to take long round-a-bout ways to drive to avoid the race course. But a great event overall.

@DennisinPeoria :

I don't get it... Especially since you mentioned they are siblings. What am I missing?

@bgbird68 :

We tried out the new Kenny's at about 3pm and there were a table of very drunk runners still in all their running clothes so they must've needed more than a few after that race haha!

@tapeworm Nope, the 2nd couple are not siblings of my daughter and son-in-law. I do have another younger daughter that runs, but she did not do the Peoria Marathon. My daughter, son-in-law, and the other couple all live in and belong to a running club in Springfield.

In November, the son-in-law is running a marathon (he's done a few), older daughter (his wife), running a half-marathon, as is my younger daughter; and wife and I are walking a 5k. (Third year in a row for us). This all takes place in Indianapolis, in an event called the Monumental Marathon.

@leslie110 :

He is doing good now, just brought him home. He still has some recovering to do, and has to go to the doctor tomorrow for more blood work, to make sure everything is still going in the right direction.

The nurses at Methodist hospital took great care of him, love them.

My mom got re-routed more often than if she would have used an un-updated GPS from 2005....

Why don't they just run on the Rock Island Trail?

Thanks, I read your original post completely wrong. It all makes sense now.

I forgot about the Marathon, and encountered multiple obstacles getting to Trinity Lutheran Church. I kept trying different routes. Finally I found one that got me to the corner of North and Hamilton, and a kindly policeman let me zip into the parking lot through a gap in the cones. (No runners were in sight at the time.) I was about 10 minutes late for church.
